The Range 'Urethane' by Stevie Gee, Essy May
Rob Ulitski - 28th Apr 2022
Blinkink’s Stevie Gee and Essy May direct a dreamlike promo for The Range, AKA James Hinton.
The music video for Urethane - from Mercury, Hinton's first album in six years - follows a set of twins on their journey to seek mercury on another planet; the most sought after commodity in this beautifully animated world. Ruled by the mercury man, the characters eventually morph into him after being consumed by all of his power.
The video explores themes of decay, growth and rebirth, visualised in iridescent textures and soft pastel colour palettes, which simultaneously feel both nostalgic yet contemporary.
The director duo's distinctive style shines magically throughout the concept, creating a world that feels familiar yet otherworldly, and provides an unexpected visual treatment for the track.
