Chris Fowles directs a poignant promo for Cavetown's Fall In Love With A Girl, featuring Beabadoobee.

The video sees the artist - real name Robin Skinner - create a series of narrative setups in a dollhouse, using small figurines and a selection of to-scale props. One of those small figurines follows the song's lead - they are placed in a conventional heterosexual relationship; but each time Cavetown's character returns to the doll's house, they have mysteriously turned away from this stereotypical set-up. 

Then a turning point changes the course of the narrative - triggered by the arrival of Bea, when Robin is absent. The figurine can then embrace the same-sex relationship they dream of.

Fowles shows impressive storytelling craft in making this all work. He approaches it in an an accessible, artistic way, and DoP Terrence Wilkins' superb cinematography - both in and out of the dollhouse - elevates the entire project. The performances of the artists also strike the right note.  

"I was so excited when this brief came in," says Fowles. "The track was such an earworm and an incredible chance to work with artists like Robin and Bea, who I’ve been a fan of for a while.

"The video is a playful lesson in not being able to control who you fall in love with. An attempt to control your destiny and finding (or in this case, creating) the perfect person."
