Fontaines D.C. 'I Love You' by Samuel Taylor

Promonews - 21st Feb 2022

Samuel Taylor reunites with Fontaines D.C. to direct a hypnotic near-oneshot video for the intense I Love You.

Taylor shot the terrific live promo of the Irish rock band's A Hero's Death for The Tonight Show - nominated for the Best Live Video award at last year's UKMVAs. This follows a similar structure - arguably it could be regarded as something of a sequel to that one - but it takes a more gothic and ghoulish turn, as frontman Grian Chatten performs the song as he walks through a candle-lit church.

The combination of the setting and Chatten's characteristically monotone, almost contemptuous delivery of the lyrics help to build a sense of creepiness and forboding that feeds into the film's uncanny, horrific climax: the site of blood spurting spontaneously from the singer's chest, through his T-shirt...
