NODE directs a striking promo for Berlin-based experimental pop artist Gabriel Gifford.The video for Barking Dogs Seldom Bite was shot at Hackney’s Moth Club, and draws inspiration from a 'cult-like' experience Gabriel had at a local spiritualist church with his father, months before his suicide. A surreal experience that seemed to reflect the nuance and eccentricity of community, mental health, and the supernatural. The video explores these themes through a contemporary lens, with the cast of Seirian Griffiths, Caterina Danzico, Genevieve Reeves, and Tia May Hockey each performing iterations of their ‘dog’ - a physical manifestation of the characters' individual demons and trauma.Building to an electric finale, the focus on raw movement and primal instinct erupts in a strobe-lit montage, cut in a hyperactive and chaotic way. Impressive work with an electric energy.

Lots of people have thought about who’ll be in attendance at their final farewell - old loves, or even worst enemies - and felt the existential quandary that comes with realising that (depending on your beliefs) there’s no way you can be there to experience it.But what if you could? Callum Lloyd-James's video for Liverpool rock outfit Crawlers answers that very question.In this darkly comic promo for the band's Would You Come To My Funeral?, a funeral descends into chaos, terror and excitement, when the deceased returns to life to settle some scores. “The track and video focus on the concept of whether you’d go to the funeral of an ex-lover, someone you’d once been so close to but now hate, and if you did go how would they react,” explains Lloyd-James.“Once we had that idea nailed down it was such a fun world to explore, looking at the emotional dilemmas of each character, developing the action and how the crowd react to it.“Ultimately though, this was all a big excuse to have a massive punch up in a church, which you don’t get to do every day.”

UKMVA-winning director Adrian Villagomez returns with a striking and thought-provoking video for Montreal-based rapper Skiifall.Opening with a group of rioters lighting a bonfire in the middle of a church, the video for Yuteman Denis blends a dynamic performance with absorbing dramatic snapshots, focussing on a young boy becoming increasingly alienated with different aspects of his life within the grind of a tough inner city.From the anonymous eye of a CCTV camera to his increasing disenchantment with the world at large, we see his journey through school and church, and his growing desire to break out of the system. When he plays with a lighter towards the end, the link with the controversial bonfire within the church is obvious. Meanwhile, Skiifall performs from the balcony of a Montreal high-rise, looking down on the boy. Having himself arrived in Canada from the Caribbean island of St Vincent as an eight year old, there's just enough suggestion this contains elements of the rapper's own story, without it distracting from the story itself.This is a skilful, sensitive and really powerful portrayal of how a young life can drift into a downward spiral, succinctly told within the music video idiom. And its confirmation that Villagomez, who's video for Jean-Michel Blai's Passepied won Best Alternative Video International at last year's UKMVAs, is a director with huge promise in this or any other form of filmmaking.
