The Snuts 'Glasgow' by Michael Sherrington
Rob Ulitski - 28th June 2021
Michael Sherrington continues his collaboration with The Snuts with this promo for latest track Glasgow.
Presented as a love letter to the city, we see the band perform atop a rooftop location, bathed in the orange glow of a picture-perfect sunset.
Escaping the stereotypical depictions of cold weather and rainy days, Sherrington's fondness of both the location and the artists is very much on display, and culminates in a colourful climax under the night sky.
MICHAEL SHERRINGTON:
It was important to... create something that felt distinctive to the band.
“What I love about working with The Snuts is that they are always looking to create something with an experiential aspect on a personal level for them when making any piece of moving image.
"For this promo the artists wanted to play to the city itself, so we leaned into the title of the track, placed the band on a rooftop at the heart of the city and created a piece that’s a performance film and love letter to Glasgow.
"Interestingly this track was one of the earliest demos that the band released which had an accompanying video. So it felt appropriate to have some simple nods to that through our use of visual language and placing the city's architecture as a character within itself.
"Seeing as this promo was released the same week as their highly successful debut album it felt like the completion of a full circle for myself as well, having started working with the band across several projects throughout the year.
"From a directing perspective it was important to be mindful of all the great performances that have taken place on rooftops and create something that felt distinctive to them, while not losing sight of the reason for playing in that location. Which is to say, projecting the track as if an omnipresent force across as big a space as possible.”
