Nick Wilson 'Yours To Take' by Bjorn Franklin & Johnny Marchetta
Bjorn Franklin and Johnny Marchetta direct an intimate portrait of a relationship, in their video for Nick Wilson's Yours To Take.
The couple - played by Chuku Modu and Alina Allison - are quite obviously enamoured with each other, spending every day dancing and drinking without a care in the world. But when two men come knocking at the door, it spells the end of their relationship.
The video allows some questions to linger, providing viewers with an opportunity to draw their own conclusions. By presenting the more dramatic scenes without any kind of audio track, the directors create an abstract narrative which communicates the emotion and context in a refreshing manner.
BJORN FRANKLIN & JOHNNY MARCHETTA:
We wanted to put our actors in this world... and capture it as authentically as possible.
"We'd be lying if we said we didn't start this film with clear inspiration. Sound Of Metal, Place Beyond The Pines, Babyteeth. All films with beautiful real-world settings, flawed, complex characters and honest performances. We wanted to push our music video in that direction and allow the audience to come on that journey with us.
"We've collaborated with Nick multiple times now, and it always humbles us the amount of creative freedom he gives us. He sends us the song and allows us to run wild. The music always leads us, but it's always a joy to have no boundaries. That was true to this process and something we relished.
"We worked with two incredibly talented actors on this film, Chuku Modu and Alina Alison. Their chemistry was undeniable and translated to the screen just effortlessly. We shot this on 35mm Kodak film, which meant we wouldn't do take after take and constantly cut to different angles.
"We wanted to put our actors in the world, set the scene, and capture it as authentically as possible. Letting the camera roll and finding moments was something we chatted to Simon, our DOP about. This is our fifth outing with Simon, he's someone who always sees what we're trying to achieve and he captured this one perfectly.
"We hope you enjoy watching this as much as we did making it."
