Curtis J 'The Man' by Meeks & Frost
Rob Ulitski - 4th June 2021
Curtis J plays both the hunter and the hunted, in Meeks & Frost's dynamic promo for The Man.Â
Intercutting between a law enforcement office and a secret hideout somewhere in Nigeria, the enigmatic concept offers both perspectives in a high-octane narrative, whilst touching upon an underlying political message in its execution.Â
Overlaid with subtitles to give clues as to the backstory, it's a polished and ambitious piece of work, confidently pulled off by the directing duo.Â
MEEKS & FROST:
Collaborations with artists who are heavily involved in their visual and creative output is key to us.Â
"Curtis and his team approached us with the idea which would see him hunt himself down. Playing duo roles as if there was two sides of him. A law enforcement officer hunting down a kingpin.
"We added our own dynamic touch to this. We looked to balance out the jumpy Afro bop you feel from the tune with the light narrative alongside it. We also understood Curtis was proud in his heritage and wanted to show an ode to this with the styling of the Nigerian soldiers.
"Collaborations with artists who are heavily involved in their visual and creative output is key to us. Allows us to feel like we are realising their vision to the fullest extent.
"Big up Curtis’s Team, Polydor, Untold Studios and the crew."Â
