Sophie Muller reunites with Birdy, and creates a poignant promo for returning single Surrender with her singular DIY approach. 

Whether it's overlooking windswept seas from the beach, a sunset through a condensation-covered window, or travelling on an shadowy train, the director harnesses Birdy's distinctive vulnerability as she delivers her trademark performance style, within a timesless, visceral English landscape.

And having established a strong relationship with Birdy over numerous previous videos - usually made as true collaborations, with great resourcefulness - Muller has just gone a step further here. She has employed a similar method to the video for James Righton's Start, released last year, and shot this on her iPhone, near her adopted home on the East Sussex coast, then edited and graded herself.
