Hether 'When U Loved Me' by Alex Lill

Rob Ulitski - 14th Nov 2019
A heavily pregnant woman celebrates and explores life in surprising ways in Alex Lill's video for Hether.Â
Featuring Jessie-Ann Kohlman - Lill's real-life girlfriend - this visual for the track When U Loved Me depicts the character dancing and enjoying herself in a variety of scenes, whilst dressing up in a selection of bold wardrobe choices. She does gynastics in her kitchen, rollerskates and even poledances - all apparently unencumbered by her condition.
Kohlman is an alluring presence - alone, for the majority of the video, but any suggestion of isolation is quickly quashed by the energy and radiance she emits as she moves. The use of vintage styling and cinematography gives an anachronistic, universal feel to the video, celebrating women across the world who are bringing up children on their own.
Beautifully lensed by Stefan Weinberger, the LA scenery is almost a character in itself, a representation of the place dreamers come to chase their goals. Even if things have not worked out perfectly for the character, she is making the most of life as it is now, will not be held back - and celebrating the future arrival of her child. Beautiful work by a very talented team.Â
