Jax0n 'Words' by Mr. Mr.
A girl struggles with crippling anxiety at a social gathering - which manifests itself in a number of surreal but wholly identifiable ways, in the video for new artist Jax0n.
The song Words, his debut single, was inspired by a friend's mental health issues that were spawned by his struggle with sexual identity, but most importantly, how the power of words helped him overcome this. In the accompanying narrative, directors Mr. Mr. (Ato Yankey & Jack Ker) present an emotive and surreal vision of social anxiety and depression.
The film focuses around a girl called Imogen, played by Lilli Mathod, and the personal challenges she faces within a houseparty, as her social anxiety throws her into the bleak and surreal world of her psyche. It's an extreme version of the social awkwardness felt by many of us - and as it turns out, a few words and gestures from others can change everything...
“In a nutshell, the film is all about social anxiety, mental health and how we can be transported into a dark place by the smallest trigger at any time; we all get lost in our own psyche sometimes. In these visuals, we dramatize this concept and play with the dynamics of that. A lot of the time, these things are just in our heads, they aren’t real; sometimes it’s as simple as reaching out and talking to each other to gain a better perspective."
