Spring King 'Animal' by The Boykov Brothers
Promonews - 22nd May 2018
A grotesque inflatable creature is given life through fear in new directing duo The Boykov Brothers' twisted video for garage rock outfit Spring King.
Taking influence from the films of David Cronenberg and Dario Argento, the band are subjected to a test undertaken by masked medical men, unleashing a growing sense of not only mounting horror but absurd, off-the-wall humour.
A promising music video directing debut by The Boykovs - that's Danny Grant and Thomas Rawle.
THE BOYKOV BROTHERS:
"The band wanted a performance element to the video, but were looking for a unique motivation for this. Our initial idea was that they would be held captive and forced to play, and we thought it would be interesting if at some point they were shown footage of themselves performing which would really freak them out.
"From here we developed the idea of the ambiguous cult-like doctors who would be testing on the band, and the grotesque creature who would essentially be feeding off their reactions and fear. We’re both big fans of David Cronenberg and other body horror, and were influenced by the bizarre goriness of these films.
"The fun thing about CGI is anything goes, so if you want an inflatable skin creature feeding off fear, you can have it. Ultimately we think the video is absurd and twisted, but funny enough take the edge off. And for us that is the sweet spot."
