Puzzle 'Comedown' by James Francis
Director and VFX artist James Francis casts Brazilian-born, London-based electro-popster Puzzle as an Assassin's Creed-style hero in a vintage sci-fi video game scenario, harnessing the power of video light beams - which gives this clip the added echo of the classic Jacksons' video for Can You Feel It.
"The treatment was born from a nostalgic love of classic sci-fi and retro computer games. I wanted to cast Puzzle as a heroic lone character that over time develops powers to break laws of physics and transform into light beams.
"This was technically achieved by first off pulling together a great team for a live action shoot. By using a custom built pre-programmed LED rig we were able to create the illusion of Puzzle being immersed in light. This provided us with a template to create choreographed VFX light pulses using a combination of 3D & 2D software. Add to the mix several weeks of creating CG landscapes, footage retouching and grading and the promo was complete."
