Nimmo 'Unyoung' by Michael Holyk
Cat Velez - 26th Jan 2016
Michael Holyk's video for Nimmo's Unyoung – his first since signing to A+ – is composed of intriguing vignettes of British youth in all manner of intense situations. Featuring cameos from the band, firework sparks fly in between flashes of corybantic dancing, kissing, and screaming at the sea.
MICHAEL HOLYK:
"Inspired by this Stephen King quote “Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win,” and my girlfriend's favourite poem ‘The Road Not Taken’ by Robert Frost the idea was mid twenties angst and bewilderment of the monotony of life that is presenting itself to us.
"I wanted to make it a dream with the scenes loosely fitting together, each representing a certain depth or specific anxiety. Focussing on overcoming the dark or simply giving into it with Nimmo’s tracks as a voice-over whilst the characters represent their internal thoughts to the point where the feeling becomes overwhelming.
"It was a great 3 days - we shot run and gun with a small crew headed up by DP James Blann who brought it all together shooting Red Dragon with Kowa anamorphics on a MOVI - turned out to be a great combo really."
