Adele 'Hello' by Xavier Dolan
Cat Velez - 26th Oct 2015
Adele is back with this sepia-tinged vision by Xavier Dolan, the precociously talented 26 year old director of several movies, including Mommy. Marking the first music video shot on an IMAX camera, the melancholic performance video for Hello revisits scenes of a past love gone astray.
The singer revisits the old countryside house where they used to live, conjuring up painful memories as she uncovers old relics. And of course, it isn't an Adele video without an impassioned performance from the artist, inevitably stirring up thoughts of our own past lovers...
“It was a privilege to direct the music video for Adele's beautiful, heartbreaking song ‘Hello’. When I first heard it, all the images appeared clearly in my head – and her trust and generosity allowed me to work with abandon artistically and emotionally, like she always does. It made me extremely proud.”
Dolan's decision to shoot aspects of the video with IMAX cameras, at 18K the highest resolution film cameras in the world, puts the Hello video in the same category as Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
