London singer/producer Miink's exploration of Christianity's role in human suffering gets a richly atmospheric treatment in Elliott Power's stunning visual for Paper Doll.The song comes from Miink's forthcoming second album Notice Me, an ambitious and commendable work that addresses the impact on uprooted culutres of the Atlantic slave trade. In Paper Doll he throws a spotlight upon how colonizers used Christianity, and the concept of heaven and hell, as a tool to prevent slaves from committing suicide on the long journey to America.[imgtoken data:1]Power's striking video alludes to the themes in the song, setting Miink's performances against elements of Christian iconography.As many enslaved people were forced to practice their true beliefs in secret, and the video for&nbsp;Paper Doll reflects this forced secrecy through a world shown entirely in darkness, in beautifully composed scenes illuminated by points of light.With cinematography by Pau Muñoz and Josep Pardo, Power sets Miink against the forces of religion, on the brink of the underworld, and creates a richly evocative piece of work.

It's no mean feat to match the scale and ambition of Introvert, the first track from Little Simz's forthcoming&nbsp;second album. But Salomon Ligthelm has done it with this extraordinarily powerful video - imaginative, inspirational and, above all, just as&nbsp;epic as the song.Introvert is&nbsp;visceral essay about black people's lives,&nbsp;fuelled by fear,&nbsp;exhaustion, frustration and political awakening. Ligthelm's brilliant work captures the essence of the powerful emotion driving Simz's track with a stunning collage of choreography, performance, archival news footage, classical painting, home movies, and a brilliant sense of Simz's home city.The video was shot across a range of London locations, including some very grand ones -&nbsp;the Natural History Museum and Wallace Collection, as well as Peckham and Crystal Palace sports complex. Ligthelm uses a&nbsp;chopped-up, collaged structure to reflect the landscape it maps, with a succession of stunning images and sequences, shot on a mix of formats - but&nbsp;predominantly Super 16mm and 4-perf 35mm film.Ligthelm first worked with Simz on the&nbsp;Top Boy&nbsp;promo for season 3, and at the end of 2020 they talked about collaborating on a video together for her new music. The result, Ligthelm's first work since joining Prettybird in London,&nbsp;is an absolute classic of the form, where every department has excelled.Wonderfully shot by&nbsp;Joel Honeywell, brilliantly edited by Elise Butt, the riveting combination of photography, choreography and editorial, as well as direction and performance, echoes the work of director Mark Romanek, and Beyoncé, no less. Greg Hackett directs a neon-lit, conceptual fantasy for Sad Night Dynamite.&nbsp;The video opens with the duo traversing the city in a white limo - a repeating&nbsp;metaphor from previous visuals - as a night of fun soon spirals out of control, leading them to an unplanned destination.&nbsp;Adric Watson's cinematography combines artificial lighting with unfamiliar angles and composition, creating an elevated yet garish aesthetic. And that is perfectly suited to the abstract concept.&nbsp;

Your Way&nbsp;campaign. Here he captures the singer-songwriter's easy charisma in a more reflective place than his previous music videos, as a lone soul during lockdown.It offers more&nbsp;evidence of Baker's unique role in London's musical landscape, as a troubadour, ploughing his own furrow, chronicling real life during hard times.&nbsp;An important, original voice in the great city.

Crowns &amp; Owls direct a brooding visual&nbsp;for Octavian's Rari, featuring Future.&nbsp;Known for balancing a fashion-forward aesthetic with boundary-pushing visuals, the moving image trio place Octavian in a sequence of abstract vignettes, mirroring the bittersweet emotion of the track.&nbsp;Bloody and breathtaking, the video pays homage to&nbsp;retro 1980's aesthetics such as&nbsp;synthwave&nbsp;and&nbsp;outrun,&nbsp;the latter taking its name from the 1986 arcade game, and popularised through images of glitchy sunsets and neon gridlines.&nbsp;The performances are spot-on, and Future's remote setup&nbsp;intercuts perfectly, a testament to the restless effort of the creative team on both sides of the Atlantic.&nbsp;

Jacob Anderson's latest outing as musical alter ego&nbsp;Raleigh Ritchie has prompted this thought-provoking&nbsp;video for new track Aristocrats, directed by Anderson himself.&nbsp;It is a family portrait through British history, that switches through different time periods through appropriate costumes,&nbsp;from the times of the Crusades, to Victorian times and the 1960s. But in Aristocrats, this great British family are black, as Anderson laments the one-sided teaching of British history, switching out the&nbsp;overwhelmingly white British aristocracy with a more diverse set of characters.Switching between periods, the barriers between the periods begin to break down.&nbsp;As the camera draws closer to Raleigh,&nbsp;these scenes become more confused and&nbsp;mixed up&nbsp;- a manifestation&nbsp;of the artist's frustration at being served up a skewed version of history.Through motion control,&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Joel Honeywell&nbsp;utilises simple tracking shots to bring the focus to the characters and costumes, punctuated by exaggerated closeups as the concepts builds towards its frenetic and haunting climax. Editor&nbsp;Jo Lewandowska cleverly intercuts the different setups to create seamless transitions, with the switch-up in pace in the final few moments a genius balance of tension and emotion.&nbsp;

Aoife McArdle channels George Orwell's Animal Farm in her outstanding satire of our post-truth world, for Coldplay's Trouble In Town. &nbsp;In this fast-moving story&nbsp;an&nbsp;ensemble of anthropomorphic characters' lead&nbsp;interwoven lives on the mean streets of an anonymous American city. Tackling issues such as homelessness, racial and social inequality and police brutality, we follow members of the underclass&nbsp;as they try to survive in a spectacularly messed-up system. The use of animals such as foxes for these characters is an inspired choice, given their urban habitat and often desperate living situation, which is in total contrast to the wealthy politicians, represented (as in the Orwell classic) by pigs.As the normal residents risk their lives day-to-day to just exist, we see the pigs on screen arguing and coming to blows with each other. This disrespect trickles down to the police and other positions of power, in a distressing setup that echoes&nbsp;real-life shootings of those such as Alton Sterling and other black men who were murdered by the police.With Kiev standing in for this threatening urban landscape,&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Mauro Chiarello utilises the neon glare of the city as a main lighting source, building upon the gritty urban aesthetic with a splash of garish colour. UK-based SFX company Millenium FX created each of the prosthetic masks on display in the video, a true testament to the creative&nbsp;team's&nbsp;talent and the incredible potential that exists in international collaboration.But above all this is a triumphant return to music videos by McArdle in making a blockbuster-style entertainment without&nbsp;compromising her satirical targets.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Proceeds from the song and video will be split between two charities:&nbsp;The Innocence Project, which helps to overturn wrongful convictions in the US;&nbsp;and ACFS, which is a charity for vulnerable children in South Africa.&nbsp;

The final epic track on&nbsp;Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 2, Foals' second album of 2019, is the basis for a symbolic, impressionistic vision by the band's close friend David East.&nbsp;Shot primarily against the 'white walls of England'&nbsp;on the shores of Botany Bay in Broadstairs, Kent - and filmed the day after the UK general election in December last year - the video for Neptune is a series of long takes of various elements curated by East and Foals' frontman Yannis Philippakis, to highlight the crescendo of not only the song but the entire album.With lengthy slow-motion shots on or around the beach of galloping horses, walls of fire and glistening waterfalls - and abstract artefacts from the digital world&nbsp;- this has the quality of an art piece, to be appreciated and deciphered in a gallery. Like the music video equivalent of 'slow TV'&nbsp;this is an experience to be savoured.

Baxter Dury has reached the point of no return in Tom Haines'&nbsp;video for I'm Not Your Dog.Following the sleazy performance and sickly aesthetic of their previous collaboration on <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/11/21/baxter-dury-slumlord-tom-haines/62018" target="_blank">Slumlord</a>, there is considerably less grit and grime this time around. Instead we see Dury in a dramatic&nbsp;portrayal of a man in deep trouble, on the boardwalk of a city resort: it could&nbsp;pass for Miami, but is in fact a&nbsp;strip of Benidorm on a January morning,&nbsp;captured by Haines and DoP Steve Annis in a single take. &nbsp;Dury has a proper amount of acting to do in this video, but he delivers with an air of confidence and the cheeky humour that permeates both his music and persona. The juxtaposition of the dreamy beach location, and a man seemingly dying from a critical wound is ironic and dark, but it's a great fit for the artist and his alternative approach to music.&nbsp;

A tribute to the narrative and visual aesthetics of typical Midnight Movies,&nbsp;Juan Pablo Rodríguez and&nbsp;Jonathan Specktor's video for Solo Tú, Dueles&nbsp;explores what it feels like to be trapped in a toxic relationship.Hauntingly raw, the line&nbsp;between love and hate is explored through conceptual shots of the pair doing everyday things - driving to the beach, dancing around a campfire - but in a strained and surreal way. The girl can't get the guy to open up, there are fights, tears, reconciliation and then fights again, stuck in a Groundhog Day-style loop of emotional torture.&nbsp;Camilo Monsalve's cinematography is a standout aspect of the project, the use of sickly yellow and pink lighting reflects the damaging and unhealthy relationship the pair are caught in, and is utilised throughout the most dramatic scenes to keep&nbsp;viewers on edge. Lead actors&nbsp;Alejandro Gonzalez and&nbsp;Florian Eribe give great performances as the lovesick couple, switching between moments of utter contempt and butterflies-in-your-stomach style love, and when the twist ending hits at the climax, it raises questions that will encourage viewers to repeat and watch it through a new lens.&nbsp;
