Nathan James Tettey channels a powerful grime superhero concept in his video for Ghetts' team-up with Stormzy on Skengman - with a little help from&nbsp;RUFFMERCY.Tettey weaves the charismatic performance of the two artists - with Ghetts in his Ghetto persona - into a narrative of stylised violence and retribution, delivered in a stark monochromatic vision akin to the darkest of superhero action movies, or Frank Miller's Sin City series.Cameo appearances by D Double E, Mist, Shaybo, and martial artist Michael 'Venom'&nbsp;Page also contribute to the idea of an alternative&nbsp;league of superheroes emerging on dangerous streets to protect the city - and this is sealed by a wonderful edit by Ollie Paxton, and work by the VFX team at Untold Studios.&nbsp;The final graphic flourish by the inimitable Russ Murphy aka RUFFMERCY completes the job. This song sat untouched for close to six&nbsp;months as a recording with just bass and drums before we came back to it and wrote and recorded the guitar line while out of our minds one night in the early AM.&quot;

RUFFMERCY sprinkles his own brand of stardust over Alex Ebert&#39;s meanderings in his hometurf&nbsp;for a very enjoyable collaboration to accompany Broken Record, the new&nbsp;release by Ebert&nbsp;(aka Alexander, aka Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros).&nbsp;The result is surely one&nbsp;of the few videos created in both Bristol and New Orleans.&quot;We spoke about Kid &#39;N&#39; Play, PM Dawn, Kenny G, Chung King Express, John Woo, Tokyo vending machines, Miami Vice... and if you look hard enough you might see these influences within our video (kind of),&quot; says Russ Murphy, aka RUFFMERCY, tells us.&nbsp;&quot;I really enjoyed this collaboration.&quot;&nbsp;Ebert, for his part, told PAPER: &quot;Despite my history of surrounding myself with crowds of wonderful musicians, and despite my interest in all things communal, I am more or less married to the lonerishness of solitary work - which is the reason my romantic relationships inevitably disintegrate, just as the relationship that inspired Broken Record disintegrated. And yet they disintegrate so that I can integrate ever more with my muse...whatever that may be.&quot; And the video attempts to capture some of that &quot;oddball&quot; solitude.&nbsp;&quot;I was inspired to do a video with Ruff Mercy because to me it has that same sort of personal freedom that only comes from handmade things done in some kind of solitude. And yet he lives in London [sic]. So instead of flying there I just spent a few nights and mornings shooting myself in total solitude, doing those things you might not otherwise think to do in the presence of others. Its a bittersweet thing, being lonesome - emphasis on sweet, for that lonesomeness is responsible for that extra bit of handmade intimacy in art that is simply not possible otherwise.&quot;

The result is a sidestep from HIS&nbsp;usual illustrative style but it&#39;s still unmistakably a RUFFMERCY video &ndash;&nbsp;and therefore, it&#39;s a treat.

Apparently one thing that happens to the rappers who don&#39;t live in gold houses is being hassled by guys in bars to deliver spontaneous lyrical flows for their&nbsp;girlfriends. Jonwayne has a whole routine about it and now its a video by RUFFMERCY that, in his trademark style, is brilliantly crafted, beautifully executed.We keep saying this about Russ, but this may be the best thing he&#39;s done. He draws you in by creating sinuous words, bubbling out of the dark blue,&nbsp;subtitling the conversation between a pestering guy and polite but&nbsp;reluctant rapper that precedes the track. The rap itself is delivered by a disembodied mouth - totally transfixing.&nbsp;&quot;People going to be calling it a lyric video but &#39;I ain&#39;t really seeing it&#39;...&quot; says Russ.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Here the Bristol-based animator tells the story of three Ralphs who must die.Crude character drawings mixed with psychedelic washes of colour, and coin imagery make for a hypnotic, dark viewing. The use of the Adobe standard checkerboard-blank background&nbsp;is an aesthetic choice that just adds to the unsettling nature of the work as a whole.

Is it really that shit?&quot;Certainly not. The video for Bird Eating Spider, works and reworks&nbsp;one of the illustrator/animator&#39;s recurring images, of the grimacing cartoon face, into an intensely hypnotic visual which ideally suits the track.

RUFFMERCY&#39;s scintillating graphic style of adding hand-drawn animation to&nbsp;live action performance - most recenlty in his latest, superb video for Run The Jewels &ndash;&nbsp;has become instantly recognisable and rightly admired.&nbsp;But this one for Old English,&nbsp;featuring&nbsp;Young Thug, Freddie Gibbs &amp; A$AP Ferg, is a bit different, and a throwback for RUFFMERCY to how he started making videos.There is no live action here. Its pure graphix, with his brilliant&nbsp;hand-drawn style veering towards the painterly, with stylistic nods to the late&nbsp;Jean-Michel Basquiat.&nbsp;It&#39;s a beautiful thing.&nbsp;

Russ Murphy aka RUFF&#39;s distinctive style has continued to gain lots more admirers too. So it&#39;s hardly surprising that band and director have weaved more magic together on their latest collaboration - the&nbsp;video for Lie, Cheat, Steal.RUFF MERCY weaves&nbsp;is his hand-drawn animation skills over a live action shoot of the charismatic El P and Killer Mike&nbsp;(shot in London) to create a video which totally grips.&nbsp;It&#39;s another banger, pure and simple.

RUFFMERCY continues to experiment with the headshot in his new video for&nbsp;Paul White&#39;s Where You Gonna Go?, But there&#39;s something rather different&nbsp;going on to the trademark RUFFMERCY (aka Russ Murphy) hand-drawn additions to a performance.Instead, new shapes and&nbsp;colours pulse out of Paul&#39;s head, and the imagery gets increasingly abstract and layered, to accompany the upbeat yet laidback vibe of the track.

Lily Allen reflects on re-entering the pop game and getting to grips with all the other pop-diva ladies, and aiming to be top girl - or, as she calls it,&nbsp;Sheezus.And nothing really distracts from this slightly Gaga-baiting message in the video by Russ Murphy - aka RUFFMERCY &ndash;&nbsp;who enhances Lily&#39;s performance with his trademark&nbsp;hand-drawn overlaying animation.Russ&#39;s work has graced numerous hip-hop videos in the past year or so - quite simply&nbsp;it works really well with performers trading&nbsp;in wordplay and verbal wit. That&#39;s why it works well here too.&nbsp;And although Lily gets a bit of a hip-hop&nbsp;makeover too, this is certainly a breakthough of the cool RUFFMERCY style&nbsp;through to a new audience.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
