Roger performs with various unusual props -&nbsp;towers of Alpro yoghurt, merch from Star Wars&nbsp;Episode 1 - and throwing shapes in the unlikely setting of a farm.&nbsp;It's all pulled together in a bonkers, buzzsaw edit by Roger himself. Roger Spy directs the second in a trilogy of music videos for singer-songwriter Jessica Winter.&nbsp;The video for Aftersun takes inspiration from the iconic Chris Cunningham promo for Madonna's Frozen, with a daytime, VFX-infused twist.&nbsp;Set within an arid landscape, the video blends lingering performance shots and slow motion snapshots, to match the relaxed pace of the track.&nbsp;"We wanted to approach it more like a ballad, then Jessica said "let's do (the video) as&nbsp;an upbeat day time version of Frozen," Spy explains.&nbsp;"Personally for me Frozen is such a visual staple of constant inspiration so I was super happy and excited to do it."

If you've forgotten exactly why Edward Scissorhands is a great movie, Roger Spy reminds us in his video for Jessica Winter's Wannabe."Jessica sent me her album and asked me to pick a few songs to make music videos for," says Roger. "Wannabe stood out for me immediately! I had just recently re-watched Edward Scissorhands and I went on youtube and looked for the hair cutting scene and played the song against it...it made me cry! I was like that's it, that's the video!"I did a mock up and send it to jessica and said this is your next video and she loved it and the rest is history. We planned it for the following week, shot it on a bank holiday and had to be delivered in 5 or 6 days. It was an express video!"&nbsp;

"We bought the castle and I did it. I thought it was the perfect analogy for the song, to be played with and used like a toy."I thought it was important to leave the ending raw in this day and age of AI, to show that we actually shot a real model. Disney should pay me for advertising it... : )"

Roger Spy self-directs a boisterous&nbsp;vertical promo for new track Suck My Wig, as he becomes a surprising&nbsp;recruit to the macho world of grassroots football - and owns it big time.&nbsp;Spy's comeback video&nbsp;is a frenetic montage of iPhone footage, shot during football practice on a West London astroturf pitch,&nbsp;in an impressively raw style. It really works.Gloriously strange and tongue-in-cheek, the unexpected setting and playful shooting style add a gritty, textural dynamic to the retro-pop style of the&nbsp;track."The song has got nothing to do with wigs," Spy explains. "I wanted to contrast the title with the most possible male toxic theme I could think of and place myself in it."For the video I also wanted to contrast the heavy hyper pop production with a minimal approach, so I stripped down all initial plans I had for lights, camera, lenses and drone and ended shooting an iPhone 14 Pro Max, to give it the dirt, grit and raw rough edges I felt it deserved."I envisioned the song as a lovechild of Bowie, MJ and Madonna. The song is about owning my manhood and if you don't like it you can suck my 'wig'."

Roger Spy directs a lively performance promo for indiepop trio Carpark, set in their Oh-So-Nineties bedroom.&nbsp;The video for pop-rock banger Don't Want You sees the girls saying no to toxic relationships, and celebrating their independence, while hanging out and monkeying around in bandmember Loda's bedroom&nbsp; - which is plastered with posters of a teenage Leo Dicaprio, in keeping with the 90s influence on Carpark's sound.[imgtoken data:1]Spy shoots the whole thing from a single locked-off camera, which encourages the trio to goof enthusiastically in the space. And then transform themselves into anonymous figures, also madly goofing, in chromakey morphsuits.Balancing the absurdity with a&nbsp;unique, unabashed style, it's another hit for Spy after a run of video collaboration in recent months.&nbsp;

Roger Spy directs an offbeat DIY promo for Joanie, inspired by a vintage fashion magazine's page layout.The video for Schadenfreude sees the artist in 12 separate squares, receiving a variety of unusual beauty treatments as the track goes on.&nbsp;From golden face peels to duct tape around the hair, this is anything but a usual beauty video, and embraces the DIY, low-budget aesthetic to wonderful effect.&nbsp;"I was sitting down with Joanie at a cafe when she said, Right, I need to do a video for this track, Roger, I have no budget." Spy recalls.&nbsp;"I asked her to grab us a chai latte in order for me to process this thought and during the time it took her to get the drink, I went on my ‘videos I wanna make’ folder and stumbled on a photo of a 70's magazine page, showcasing trendy hair styles. Upon Joanie's return I told her, This is the video!!!, and the rest is history."We bought some wigs, I got some lights from a mate, had a bike accident carrying them back - nearly died - shot the video on an iPhone, got a makeup artist and did a lot of post production work to make it all look as seamless as possible. Rendering, playback and export was a nightmare - my computer wasn’t happy dealing with twelve 4k clips at the same time, but I’m very happy with the end result and I love the track."

Following his self-directed videos for his own music, Roger Spy channels his offbeat energy into the promo for Alfreda's On and On.&nbsp;Set in the early 60s, On and On&nbsp;is a dreamlike fantasy featuring a pregnant bride, free and content in her isolation. Born out of an alternative take on the Catwoman origin story, the video pays homage to strong-minded artists such as Barbra Streisand and Róisín Murphy, concentrating on an improvised performance symbolic of female liberation and independence.Minimalist in its execution, the styling and art direction is striking and authentic to the time period, and Alfreda's performance exudes a playful energy that makes her mesmerising to watch.Since shooting the video, pre-London lockdown, Alfreda has become pregnant herself and is expecting her first child in November this year.ALFREDA:&nbsp;<blockquote>I've spent the last few months living out a similar state of isolated pregnancy as in the video - my&nbsp;life imitating my art.</blockquote>“I love this video even more now than when we shot it. Roger Spy self-directs an experimental lockdown concept for new release Elsewhen (ii).&nbsp;The lo-fi visual is filmed on a small Go-Pro style camera, capturing an 18-hour period in which Spy creates&nbsp;a DIY set from bin bags and tin foil, edging into the territory of conceptual art.&nbsp;There are bright-eyed hazmat characters, mysterious boxes and glitchy, creepy performance, intertwined to create a haunting and isolated atmosphere.After the tongue-in-cheek pop of his video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2020/01/08/roger-spy-did-you-go-masturbation-school-roger-spy/62606">Did You Go To Masturbation School</a>, released&nbsp;back in January, this is a real change of direction:&nbsp;the avant garde side of Roger Spy.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Building on his award-winning debut Crystallize, artist Roger Spy self-directs the offbeat video for the provocatively-titled Did You Go To Masturbation School?Casting his typically sharp, otherworldly eye on contemporary society with a brilliant mix of glam pop, electronica and film, the video filters through the plastic to cleverly make the connection between 90's boy band (im)perfection and the new, fake decade of supposed 'I’m perfection', using&nbsp;Nick Carter as&nbsp;the metaphor for all that is artifice. As the sweeping, anthemic chorus rings out and Andy Warhol first said, "fantasy love is much better than reality love".Shot entirely within one room, the art direction is inspired, layering vintage&nbsp;magazine articles and pull-out posters into an obssessive mural for the 90s heartthrob. Nostalgic and ever so slightly unsettling, the video is a testament to Spy's avant-garde artistry and ability to smash together pop culture and surrealism.&nbsp;

With excellent use of VFX and Spy channelling at least a couple of pop greats - Mercury meets Gaga? - its going to be interesting to see if this is the start of something big.&nbsp;
