Leo Leigh's debut video,&nbsp;for Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood's new project The Smile, is a singularly intense experience. Leigh more or less dispenses with the causes of a trauma to confront the viewer with the harrowing results. You can only watch and wonder why - while listening to the altogether more gentle Free In The Knowledge.There are a couple of remarkable performances in the video, demonstrating distress and anguish in such visceral ways that it's hard not to think that some genuinely bad stuff happened just prior to when the camera started to roll.Halfway through, there are glimpses of exposition, snatches of other characters, and a ritualistic ceremony, suggestng the power dynamic of&nbsp;this haggard forest tribe. But it's those first two minutes that leave the most powerful impression.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mabel designs her ideal man in Isaac Rentz's&nbsp;90s-inspired video for Boyfriend.&nbsp;The video opens with Mabel and friends using a futuristic LCD screen, swiping through schematics of various men. There's the nice guy, the sweet guy, the bad guy - and when the perfect man is just a click or a swipe away, why not indulge and see what's out there?&nbsp;Mabel does just that, awakening several different subjects and interacting with them in a glass room, but ultimately decides&nbsp;she is better off with her girls.&nbsp;DP&nbsp;Alexandre Jamin utilises bold colours and&nbsp;FX lights to create a dynamic and vibrant aesthetic, which is matched by&nbsp;Lucie Red's impeccable art direction. Mabel's performance brings the heat and switches up the pace through several impressive dance setups. Cinematic, and with a heavy dose of nostalgia, this is a brilliant promo pulled off by a talented creative team.&nbsp;

Liam Payne takes to the coast in Similar But Different's video for Live Forever.&nbsp;Shot across the Isle of Wight and Dorset, Payne is unphased by the British weather as he echoes James Bond, climbing out of the freezing water in his underwear and posing topless in high winds. Joined by a handful of friends in one scene, he&nbsp;drifts around an empty car park whilst hanging out of a car window, letting his metaphorical hair down and enjoying the spontaneity and uncertainty that life brings. None of us can live forever so why not have fun whilst we're here?&nbsp;Favouring abstract shots and fashion film style montages, the directing duo (made up of&nbsp;Dani Girdwood &amp;&nbsp;Charlotte Fassler) present a fresh aesthetic for Payne that is&nbsp;rugged and masculine, but appealing to all audiences.&nbsp;

Dream-team Bree Runway and Fred Rowson continue their ambitious collaboration with this second, pointed foray into the world of 'Crackney'.Runway has never suffered fools gladly. Her short visual canon is reliably barbed and political. We first encountered her in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/09/26/bree-runway-what-do-i-tell-my-friends-fred-rowson/49791">What Do I Tell My Friends</a>, in which the singer murdered an abusive fashion photographer and desecrated his corpse. This, her first collaboration with Rowson, was a caustic piece of wit in 2017 that anticipated the #MeToo campaign.Two years later, for Runway’s latest project, the two have developed the cartoonish, satirical world of Crackney. Their magical realist conception of London is a springboard for criticisms of culture and the city, in which dark skin-tones are a profitable commodity and Runway doppelgängers run amock.Big Racks takes aim at rigged capitalism and white gatekeepers of industry. Gentrifiers, procedural bureaucrats and trendy columnists who feel entitled to a piece of Runway (“I must touch your hair!”) This episode hones in on a beauty tycoon character we met in <a href="http://https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/05/29/bree-runway-2on-fred-rowson/58936">20N</a>. This time, the businesswoman is&nbsp;trying to secure a patent on her home brewed ‘Be Runway Body Spray’. Leading with the headline,<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/dec/02/revealed-the-stark-evidence-of-everyday-racial-bias-in-britain"> “57% of ethnic minorities feel they have to work harder to succeed in a British workplace”</a>, the video skewers&nbsp;the myth that hard work is the only factor at play in personal success. Even with a fistful of cash, she can only secure a deal with a literal paper bag over her head.The video benifits from some hyperactive, mixed-format photography by Stefan Yap. And a fresh, comic&nbsp;book colour palatte, for which we can thank stylist&nbsp;Holly Adamthwaite and colourist&nbsp;Edwin Metternich. Spiky politcal satire rarely looks so fun.

Fred Rowson and Bree Runway revive the collaboration that began with&nbsp;2017&rsquo;s&nbsp;What Do I Tell My Friends? (where&nbsp;Bree murders a fashion photographer and twerks over his dead body) with an&nbsp;ambitious new project starting with this video for 2ON. &nbsp;After his work on the last Years &amp; Years&rsquo; release, Palo Santo, Bree asked Fred Rowson to take on the role of Creative Director. This time, Bree wanted something much larger in scale - a satirical concept based around her experiences growing up in Hackney, coming from a Ghanaian family, and finding that the darkness of her skin tone was the source of bullying and commentary throughout her childhood.From these painful beginnings, Bree and Fred created a cartoon world - Crackney - in which the concept of skin tone is malleable, in which Bree is a fashion tycoon, with her office based in her real-life living room, running a business that sells Be Runway Body Spray - a spray that turns the wearer into, of course, Bree Runway.With a set of references spanning from Aqua&#39;s Barbie Girl video to Twin Peaks, via Mortal Kombat, Bree and Fred created a colourful, heightened visual world which link narratively her social media presence, the songs themselves, the stills and EP artwork - shot by Charlotte Rutherford - and the two music videos, written and directed by Fred. Fred and Bree are planning to extend the concept to Bree&rsquo;s live shows in the future.

For the second collaboration between Salomon Ligthelm and Young Fathers (following <a href="https://vimeo.com/217809089" target="_blank">Mr Martyr</a>)&nbsp;the director was inspired by the track to create a world where dictators behave like spoilt little children, throwing tantrums because things aren&rsquo;t going their way.Sorry, that is the real world. In this case, Ligthelm actually turns our terrifying leaders into children - a great device at the heart of a stirringly satirical and&nbsp;highly entertaining interpretation of the track Toy.&ldquo;The tone of the track is so visceral and abrasive, which I think marries the political subject matter perfectly,&rdquo; says Ligthelm. &ldquo;Looking at the political climate of our time, I&rsquo;d say truth is certainly stranger than fiction.&rdquo;With a wonderful cast of youngsters playing the nasty rulers, great locations, lovely photography (DoP Steve Annis give it a classic look) and a fine edit by Dan Sherwen, this is a very strong addition to the excellent campaign of videos accompanying the new Young Fathers&#39; album, Cocoa Sugar.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jack Whiteley&#39;s new video for Young Fathers presents itself initially as a recognisable sub-genre of the medium - beautifully-shot, tastefully art directed, evocative and &#39;artistic&#39;. And then it begins to strip away at the artifice.Whiteley&#39;s video for In My View is a meta-satire&nbsp;that like others of it&#39;s ilk&nbsp;works on at least a couple of levels - not least in presenting Young Fathers in a fascinating&nbsp;light. It coincides with the announcement of the band&#39;s third album, and makes you want to hear it.&nbsp;

WIZ teams up yet again with Kasabian for a jailhouse rock of sorts.No, there&#39;s nothing wrong with your speakers - that&#39;s just WIZ toying with you for gritty, lo-fi effect. It&#39;s a raucous, rowdy black and white performance video from Kasabian that takes place in a dilapidated squat that&#39;s soon to become luxury apartments. A not-so-subtle, but certainly welcome, swipe at the former Mayor of London and the ruthless gentrifying efforts of developers in the city.

Playfully toying with the idea of alter-egos and affectionately illustrating the idiosyncratic relationship at the heart of the band, WIZ is back with another epic video for Kasabian. And, yes, one of those alter-egos is Noel Fielding.It&#39;s also something of a departure for a director renowned for placing pop stars in serious roles in big cinematic scenarios, Kasabian included. The film references are all present and correct, but&nbsp;You&#39;re In Love With A Psycho is seriously comic, even cartoonish.&nbsp;Featuring appearances from Stephen Graham as well as Noel Fielding, this take on One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest is scurrilously tongue-in-cheek, and full of sight gags. It even includes a touch of the Marx Brothers, with Kasabian&#39;s Serge Pizzorno and Fielding engaging in their version of the famous mirror scene from Duck Soup.The band contribute wholheartedly to an ensemble that sees a gang of patients clamouring&nbsp;for the affections of their nurse - a more alluring version of OFOTCN&#39;s evil Nurse Cratchit &ndash;&nbsp;before breaking out in a suitably demented dance routine.
