Gorillaz co-creator&nbsp;Jamie Hewlett &amp; FX Goby direct a super ambitious promo for new track Silent Running, featuring&nbsp;Adeleye Omotayo.The video is a rip-roaring clash of live action and seamless CGI, and sees the other members of the band help 2-D escape an unfortunate fate.&nbsp;Building upon the narrative arc of the upcoming album - in which the group are spiralling&nbsp;towards a&nbsp;day of reckoning called The Rupture - the video is an inspired mix of Disney fantasy and cult-like horror, which sits well within the greater Gorillaz canon.&nbsp;It's a big achievement, well worth all of the attention it is getting.&nbsp;

Joe Connor directs an innovative and beguiling promo for Ellie Goulding's Like A Saviour.Set against a desert backdrop cycling&nbsp;through different times of day, we see Goulding and a set of dancers perform slick choreography&nbsp;whilst the environment around them transforms.&nbsp;Making use of the latest production technology, the entire video was shot against a virtual LED screen, with the sand set built right in front (and on top)&nbsp;of it, allowing the creative team to completely control every aspect of the visual.&nbsp;Aside from the magic of the technology, Goulding and the dancers hit every mark, creating an evocative video that perfectly complements the emotive track.&nbsp;"Ellie came to me with a brief that dared me to think a little differently," explains Joe Connor. "I&nbsp;wanted to throw myself in front of the latest technology and play with what was possible using the large Virtual Production Volume screens."We’ve all seen the images of the Mandalorian, but I felt that there was so much room to use this technology for artistic expression. I wanted to create a desert space where time constantly shifted, from day to night and back to day again. This felt like a really exciting and dynamic starting point to work from.&nbsp;"Working with D-Neg studios, we built a large-scale, 3D desert in Unreal Engine and then built a detailed, real-world foreground using tonnes of sand to blend into our 3D world. The ability to shift through the time of day was enhanced by David Procter’s real-world lighting, which was synchronised with the constantly changing lighting on the screen.&nbsp;"What the team has created is a video which feels unlike any other Ellie Goulding video. It’s a great example of cooperation and collaboration in the pursuit of a singular visual idea."&nbsp;

Aoife McArdle returns to music videos, teaming up with Belfast's&nbsp;dynamic electronic producer/DJ duo Bicep to create a breathtaking music video that echoes the stylish TV series she helped create.Powered by signature Bicep production style of layered elements and beats in the track Water - with vocals by Clara La San -&nbsp;McArdle takes us on a trip where the essential drama of the scenario drifts into surrealism and eventually, existential absurdity.&nbsp;A female patient&nbsp;(played by Angela&nbsp;Nwagbo) is being transported by two hospital staff members&nbsp;on a hospital gurney down a pure white hospital corridor - which goes on&nbsp;and on. This, it becomes evident, is a journey with no end in sight - perhaps no end at all. What is the point of this journey, and apparent&nbsp;emergency? Is the patient, sometimes under a oxygen face mask, and then not, actually ill at all?Rooms adjacent to the corridor reveal odd arrangements&nbsp;that exacerbate the sense of dreamlike unreality. As the patient gains&nbsp;agency and the physical scope of the film starts to expand, each new location takes the form of a different stream of her consciousness.McArdle creates this psycho-drama through the beautifully crafted&nbsp;development of a visual aesthetic, which will be familiar to those who have seen&nbsp;Severance,&nbsp;the acclaimed&nbsp;Apple TV+&nbsp;drama that she has worked on as both director and producer&nbsp;- and which she discussed on The Promonews Podcast, earlier this year.As in the TV series, the pristine production design contributes&nbsp;to the sense of unease and dislocation. But here if anything McArdle&nbsp;gets the chance to break down the separation between recognisable reality and a surreal fiction even more - and play in the realm of the psyche.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Legendary music video director WIZ returns with a characteristically dramatic and&nbsp;enigmatic 'musicfilm' for alt-rock duo Sons Of Raphael.The band, comprised of brothers Loral and Ronnel Raphael, deliver a new take on old school psych-rock with their track&nbsp;Revolution, and&nbsp;WIZ puts the pair squarely at the centre of near-operatic psychological mini-melodrama.&nbsp;It begins with a battered and bruised&nbsp;Loral crawling painfully up steps,&nbsp;Ronnel comes to his aid, they make their way through a brutalist urban landscape. WIZ creates a dreamlike, almost absurdist drama from the economical use of the pair in an intriguing&nbsp;location, which appears to exist somewhere between reality and pure theatre.As with his other recent work&nbsp;like his video for Mika's San Remo, DoP Catherine Derry is an excellent interlocutor of WIZ's vision, the cinematography is both intimate and epic.&nbsp;

Vaughan Arnell directs a chromatic promo for Gary Barlow and guest artists Michael Buble and&nbsp;Sebastian Yatra.Shot across three countries, the video marks another collaboration between Arnell and Barlow - one that probably began with the Take That video for Back For Good in the mid-Nineties -&nbsp;and radiates their trademark feel-good vibes.&nbsp;Switching between minimalist performance and&nbsp;kaleidoscopic dance sections, the rhythmic stylings of the track are visualised through Will Bex's&nbsp;cinematography -&nbsp;and the irresistible spark of&nbsp;energy from all three artists.&nbsp;"The video was shot in London with Gary, and then remote directing Michael in Vancouver and Sebastian in Miami," explains Vaughan.&nbsp;"Will Bex designed the lighting set up so that it could be duplicated for each artist in their respective cities - using the same camera, lenses and specifically designed moves to give it a constant look and feel."

Jordan Rossi directs a vibrant performance video for Griff &amp; electronic duo Honne, as part of a project on emerging talent by Vero and Hunger Magazine.&nbsp;Inspired by the amalgamation of art and technology in the digital era, the promo is an energetic ride through glitchy textures and otherworldly projections.&nbsp;While Griff's performance is understated yet endearing, and&nbsp;Honne's cameos are cleverly intertwined into the art direction, via lilting loops on TV screens.&nbsp;"This video was a love letter to the digital era taking us down the rabbit hole of cyber space," says Rossi. "It was always meant to be a slightly surreal acid trip but in a very confined computer context. I described it initially as Dali meets The Matrix with a glitchy style."The video was created as part of a special collaboration between Vero and Hunger Magazine as a focus on emerging British music talent. It was great to have Griff part of this with her strong visual style and laser-focused vision."

Jordan Rossi directs a psychedelic journey through cyberspace for Rika's Left To Love.&nbsp;Shot&nbsp;entirely in quarantine conditions, the Alice in Wonderland-style&nbsp;concept was shot entirely on iPhone, and is a whirlwind of contemporary nostalgia.&nbsp;This was a shoot originally planned before the crisis, but Rossi and team adapted admirably to make it work by directing remotely.JORDAN ROSSI:<blockquote>While a lot of videos have embraced the homemade DIY aesthetic I wanted to look the other way</blockquote>“I pitched on the track before coronavirus hit but it became evident very quickly that this would have to be a remote shoot.&nbsp;I’ve always been obsessed with the digital landscape of the 21st Century and feel the World Wide Web is a bit of a rabbit hole."I wanted to bring that concept to this amazing track which is really about looking for love- something we all do online and through our digital profiles. It’s why we peppered in different text and Internet specific phrases throughout the video.“I knew that heading into the lockdown there would still be a need for content but we’d have to adjust our approach. While a lot of videos have embraced the homemade DIY aesthetic I wanted to look the other way and really utilise the amazing technology at our fingertips."Just because we have to shoot remotely or on an iPhone doesn't mean that the visual output needs to be sacrificed. We can still create beautiful imagery to enhance narratives. It just needs to be approached with a slightly different mindset."The process of making this video was made so incredibly easy with the stellar team around us. Greg at Whitehouse did a great job with the edit and Tom’s graphics really brought the film to life. George and Jack over at BlackKite knocked it out of the park with all the colourful visual effects.
