Filmawi has directed a beautiful conceptual piece for Jvck James's soulful&nbsp;Hennessy Tears.Starting with a flock of birds flying through a clear blue sky, the camera pans to Jvck James, walking on desert-like ground, and performing the song about being overwhelmed by love with real feeling. The camera moves ahead of him, and as Jvck addresses the lens&nbsp;for the first time, stardust particles begin to flow from the singer.The particles coming from Jvck are echoed by the birds above, and then Filmawi adds another surprising element - the camera is a the person that Jvck is singing to. That adds another layer to the already captivating song and video, elevating the theme of all-encompassing&nbsp;love.

Birdman meet UK rap as we see Asher D walking through a one-take rehearsal for a play - only for&nbsp;reality and fantasy to&nbsp;start to spill into one another - in Filmawi's riveting video for Dat's A Wrap.Beginning with a theatre director screaming at a runner as the camera slowly pans out to reveal a whole production with crew, with some trying to calm the situation down. In the middle of everything Asher appears on-screen, calm and&nbsp;smooth as ever. He moves through the scene&nbsp;performing the track to the camera, describing his film career. He keeps his interactions&nbsp;with the surrounding cast to a minimum - even when one has a medical emergency.Filmawi excels in putting the viewer in a position where they feel familiar with the situation, only to flip the script in a perfectly-timed surreal moment at the climax.&nbsp;Watch again to look out for clues... the ending makes it one to remember.&nbsp;

Filmawi has directed a celebration of black British fashion and music for The Legacy Series, presented by YouTube and GUAP, which premiered on December 17th. Here's one of the highlights of the show, Pa Salieu performing Over There.&nbsp;&nbsp;Collaborating with Westfield London the event also included&nbsp;live performances and fashion by George the Poet, Tiana Major9, Ms Banks and NSG, showcasing black designers through runways and interviews hosted by Henrie Kwushue.Filmawi added&nbsp;his unique surrealism and gritty visuals which compliments the series and adds a cinematic touch, taking the viewer&nbsp;through a journey of how and why the artists and designers are imperative parts of black British culture. All these elements makes this project linger in the mind way after in the mind and a great reminder of black British talent that isn’t celebrated enough.&nbsp;

Filmawi has created a hugely impactful video for Burna Boy’s performance of the heartfelt Monsters You Made for the BET Hip-Hop Awards. Evoking the era of the Black Panthers, the&nbsp;Nigerian superstar performs to students in front of footage of peaceful mass protests through the decades, in an atmospheric old building that is now a place of learning. The&nbsp;youths&nbsp;absorb Burna's&nbsp;words,&nbsp;while he&nbsp;is supported by a passionate live band - and Chris Martin appears, performing the chorus, as part of the film projection.&nbsp;Filmawi’s scene-setting and measured approach&nbsp;compliment the song's impassioned message&nbsp;to stop police brutality everywhere - including the&nbsp;movement in Nigeria to dismantle&nbsp;the notorious SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad).&nbsp;The band are wearing #StopPoliceBrutality T-shirts and as the performance ends, fists are held high, as a list of names of innocent Nigerians killed by SARS appears in the final frames. This a video that lingers in the mind long after it finishes.

COMPULSORY have announced&nbsp;the latest addition to its roster: award-winning photographer and filmmaker Filmawi. The former agency creative joins the production company for UK representation in commercials, music videos and creative direction.Filmawi (above)&nbsp;joins <a href="http://www.compulsoryviewing.co.uk/" target="_blank">COMPULSORY</a> having already directed two music videos through the London-based production company:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/07/20/mj-cole-x-kojey-radical-soak-it-filmawi/54202" target="_blank">MJ Cole &amp; Kojey Radical’s Soak It Up</a>&nbsp;(below), which premiered in Fader last July and was nominated at the UKMVAs last October.&nbsp;His latest&nbsp;project, released last week, is a music video for&nbsp;Beamlight&nbsp;by London artist Jay Prince.&nbsp;Filmawi collaborated with award-winning DoP Joel Honeywell on the film.[imgtoken data:1]His move into directing follows his development as a multi-disciplinary artist in art direction and photography. His photographic portfolio boasts clients in both advertising and music, and he has photographed key names in urban music such as&nbsp;Chance the Rapper, Stormzy, Dizzee Rascal, Pusha T, J Hus, Slowthai. He recently launched a&nbsp;new stills campaign for Stormzy x Adidas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Working as an Art Director at AMV BBDO, he helmed projects for Pepsi, Dewar’s, National Lottery, and Smart Energy. During this time, he also Art Directed campaigns for Sadiq Khan’s ‘London Needs You Alive’ Anti-Knife Crime campaign and won a D&amp;amp;AD award for work with the Met Police.&nbsp;Moving into directing,&nbsp;one of his first projects, Open Cinema, was awarded the prestigious AdCan award in 2014. Following early success, Filmawi then chose to work agency side in order to further develop his craft for brands. His short films&nbsp;Rebirth&nbsp;and&nbsp;Tragedy&nbsp;were awarded D&amp;AD New Blood Awards in 2016.Kadri Mahmoud, head of commercials at COMPULSORY comments: “We’ve always sought out directors with distinctive artistic backgrounds. As the video builds, their world is interrupted by objects from space: meteors that stream across the sky. And as the meteors shower modern day London,&nbsp;Jay decides to face them.

Its simple yet sophisticated and very powerful.
