The Weeknd heralds his new album Dawn FM with a spectacular and nightmarish promo from Matilda Finn.&nbsp;The video for Gasoline is dripping in Finn's harrowing, hyperreal aesthetic, and follows an elderly version of the artist, who crashes his car into a stop sign and descends into a Hellish realm.&nbsp;He regains consciousness in a crowded room, where sinful beings are grappling for whatever physical pleasures they can acquire -&nbsp;sex, drugs, violence... it's all on the cards in this place.&nbsp;The crowd begin to show their true colours, as their faces distort into monstrous forms, and The Weeknd has a face-off with a younger version of himself, ending in another death.&nbsp;This is an enigmatic expression of existential despair in Matilda Finn's signature style, and it's&nbsp;outstanding work. The video touches upon life, death and addiction, and does so with sublime style - and lots of creepy crawlies.&nbsp;

Young Replicant rounds off his visual trilogy for Sam Dew, with the intriguing promo for DJ.This is the third video for Dew by Alex Takacs aka Young Replicant, in a series for the singer's debut album Moonlit Fools, which&nbsp;follows a network of mysterious workers, unseen by anyone, who deliver bubblegum card-like messages in the middle of the night. These then act as catalysts for emotion, stirring up heartache or desire in the recipients.The delightful first video for NTWFL sets the scene for this enigmatic scenario.[vidtoken data:0]&nbsp;Then in Gone, we begin to see the same action from a different perspective, adding characters and deepening the mystery in a classic noir style.[vidtoken data:1]The video for DJ brings Sam Dew more to the forefront in a performance setting without compromising the overall dreamlike quality. A woman is drawn by the card of Dew to a screen in a carpark where she finds him and is then transported to a deserted beach, where another&nbsp;screen blots out the night sky.Posing abstract questions about our purpose on Earth in the age of technology, and what might be stopping us from becoming our best selves, the video is painted with a melancholic aesthetic, mixing intimate, slice-of-life vignettes with jarring reminders of technological influence, in the form of these omnipresent screens and displays.&nbsp;Young Replicant has long been able to establishing a visual universe and internal logic to his work that is entirely unique, and he has refined that further in this trilogy. It's a lovely thing - while also being a terrific&nbsp;showcase for Sam Dew's talent as a vocalist.

Colin Read mixes past and present, toying&nbsp;with our perception of the digital world, in his video for indie-rock legends Weezer.Read affectionately draws upon the the band's roots in the 1990s, dovetailed with their selves in the here and now, to create&nbsp;a sort of anachronistic hybrid reality, with a different kind of internet: the optimism and sociability of early web days are back - courtesy of a young man with a magic chatroom portal. But then, everyone also has smartphones.Our hero connects with a female chatroom pal - and then they join up in reality. The magic portal then takes them elsewhere, and finally to Weezer in the studio. And these transitions are achieved by 90s-tastic in-camera trickery rather than post VFX. But can 90s tech really triumph over the modern variety?It's an ambitious, constantly imaginative way to show how the more interconnected we are through the internet and social media, the less connected we are as human beings. And nothing makes that point clearer than the video's downbeat ending.[imgtoken data:1]

As well recently directing the video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/10/30/beck-hyperlifeuneventful-days-dev-hynes/61594" target="_blank">Beck's Hyperlife/Uneventful Days</a>&nbsp;-&nbsp;featuring Tessa Thompson and Evan Rachel Wood -&nbsp;Dev Hynes has also self-directed the video for Dark &amp; Handsome, a track from his own&nbsp;recent mixtape Angel's Pulse, in his musical guise as&nbsp;Blood Orange.This is a minimal but effective affair featuring Hynes's&nbsp;own performance intercut with a tracking shot of a group of African-American&nbsp;schoolkids running happily along a beach, and other well composed vignettes, delightfully shot by DoP Ben Carey.There's also an appearance&nbsp;from guest star Toro y Moi - making a cameo appearance&nbsp;as a video within the video, on an iPhone. But the overall effect is one of poignant nostalgia - exactly the feeling evoked by this&nbsp;sweetly soulful&nbsp;track.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

We've been here before, most memorably with Beastie Boys' Intergalactic. But Eoin Glaister puts a whole new spin on a classic Japanese monster&nbsp;movie trope for Joji and Jackson Wang.So&nbsp;Giant Lobster (or Crayfish?) - played by Joji -&nbsp;is causing terror by smashing through&nbsp;the city. It&nbsp;must be saved by Jackson,&nbsp;stoically operating his Giant Robot. Battle ensues amid the cardboard skyscrapers, to the unseemly delight of Jackson's girlfriend.But just when we think that Giant Lobster is vanquished, having been summarily poleaxed by Robot, there's a twist in the tale. It's very sweet - a kind of 'snowflake' revisionism that will enrage&nbsp;neo-conservative lovers of Godzilla films. So that makes it great.What's more, there's also room for an enjoyable epilogue of Joji and Jackson having great fun, mock-fighting on set - until Joji's magnificent lobster/crayfish outfit starts falling apart...

The latest masked EDM enigma Marshmello has a really lovely time in his &#39;Ritual&#39; video by Andrew Donoho.Making full use of Marshmello as a recognisable, visually interesting presence in just about any room (save for maybe an elevator shared with Daft Punk, Deadmau5, MF Doom and Slipknot) the video sees him travel to all manner of interesting places with golden sunlight and anamorphic lens flare washing over everything. He&#39;s either running, jumping or skateboarding his way into and out of party scenarios. It&#39;s hard not to feel good when watching a man in an expensive light-up marshmallow&nbsp;helmet live life to the fullest.

Samy Mosher&#39;s False Alarm video for Matoma &amp; Becky Hill is all about the fiery passions of love.The X-Men-esque storyline uses fire as a very literal visual here lifted straight from the lyrics of the chorus. It&#39;s implemented with great effect - for the first half of the video you&#39;ve no real idea that anything out of the ordinary is taking place. It&#39;s a gorgeous looking video, full of magic hour shots in the desert, and fairground fun.It all feels like familiar territory until we sit down in what looks like an interrogation room with a doctor, and that&#39;s when the fire starts.I&#39;m a big fan of a bait-and-switch narrative and Samy Mosher implements it here brilliantly.Although there seems to be a very quick scene where a man who can burst into flames seemingly uncontrollably is at a petrol station and that just seems like it wouldn&#39;t end well.
