Christy performs a live acoustic version of his track Without You, from the loft/green room above Peckham Liberal Club.Directed by&nbsp;Rhory Danniells, the video is a follow up to the brilliant <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/12/02/christy-denial-live-peckham-liberal-club-rhory-danniells/79560">In Denial</a>, which was released last month and filmed in the same location.&nbsp;Shot in an intentional, gentle fashion, in a single take, the video focuses purely on Christy's emotionally charged performance, whilst the unintrusive style of cinematography helps the whole project feel organic and natural.&nbsp;

Rhory Danniells directs a captivating live video for Christy, shot at the Peckham Liberal Club - in which the Scottish soul singer and his band give a storming performance in front of a disinterested audience of local punters.&nbsp;This palpably live rendition of the soulful&nbsp;number In Denial is an striking display of the artist's vocal prowess and charisma. It's a joyful, uplifting song and the energy on stage is electric, so it wouldn't matter if the audience was empty or facing the other way. But their&nbsp;lack of interest in Christy and his excellent musicians&nbsp;- with the exception of one person - is a nicely daft&nbsp;conceit.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]The video is the first part of a trilogy of live films, and this one is so well executed - with impressive&nbsp;cinematography by Henry Gill and Steadicam work&nbsp;by Jayy Gomez - that it will be interesting to see how Danniels develops the narrative in this wonderfully atmospheric location, as well as hearing more groovy soul from&nbsp;Christy and the band.&nbsp;Will they eventually win over this typically hard-to-please South London crowd?

Four hopeful actors audition for the role of a lifetime, in&nbsp;Slane's touching promo for Rhys Lewis.&nbsp;Showing the lead up to - and the eventual fallout from - an awkward casting session, we follow the journeys of four very different characters, with Lewis taking on one of the roles.&nbsp;A flurry of chaotic poses, faux-fight scenes and strange facial expressions ensues, with none of the character getting the role. In the end, they all head out to the city as a group, and live out their superhero fantasies together.&nbsp;Comedic and heartfelt, it's a great little video that ends on an optimistic note.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;"Creating the world for&nbsp;this video&nbsp;was a lot of fun," says Slane.&nbsp;"A cast of superheroes was the key part of the brief. So I came up with four superhero characters and developed their backstories, superpowers and costumes, paying homage to Kick-Ass."Taking inspiration from 80's TV shows, Rhys and I came up with [superhero team]&nbsp;The Midnight&nbsp;and worked backwards to create this fun video of four failed audition tapes. Concept to delivery happened in record time, so big shout to Pilar at Papaya and the amazing cast and crew."

Simon Lane directs an ethereal dance-based promo for singer-songwriter&nbsp;Sandrayati Fay.The video is simple in concept - expressing a New Dawn, delicately expressed through movement - yet the tender cinematography by Jake Gabbay, shooting on 16mm, and Lane's considered direction ensure this is an absorbing piece of work.&nbsp;Everything from the art direction to the choreography is inspired by Sandrayati's connection to home, which creates an intimate connection and another layer to the emotional compexity of the project.&nbsp;

Beki Mari directs a sensual promo for&nbsp;Melody Gardot and Philippe Powell, produced by 247 Productions.&nbsp;The video for&nbsp;This Foolish Heart Could Love You is&nbsp;curated in partnership with the Musée Rodin in Paris, and features two dancers in place of the artists themselves -&nbsp;Marie-Agnès Gillot, who also choreographed the piece, along with her male counterpart from L’Opera Garnier,&nbsp;Germain Louvet.Dressed in&nbsp;archive pieces by Japanese Designer Issey Miyake, the video externalises the romantic themes of the track, and the dancers take inspiration from the breathtaking art that surrounds them, bringing to life the sculptor August Rodin's work, as if to ‘flip the switch’ on who is the muse and who is the artist.&nbsp;"Some of our most powerful memories are re-lived through music which is why it is so vital to film-making," says Beki Mari.&nbsp;"Music inspires movement both externally and internally and in this piece, surrounded by some of the worlds greatest sculptures, we project ourselves through this combination of movement and song in order to dream through the romance, ending in the slow stillness of silence."For me, the fascination of creating films is this ability to conceive or birth a kind of visual language which is understood uniquely, each time it is played."&nbsp;

Joao Retorta explores the connection between people and possessions in his quietly devastating visual for the American composer/performer Stephan Moccio.The video for Moccio's solo piano composition Halston&nbsp;is set&nbsp;in a&nbsp;Lost Property Office, where a solitary officer on the nightshift diligently records newly arrived belongings -&nbsp;photos, books, wallets, spectacles, passports, toys, and more - archiving and photographing each item.&nbsp;The viewer is invited to reflect upon&nbsp;the people who have lost these treasured possessions - who are represented in the film as anxious voices enquiring after lost items on the office answering machine.[imgtoken data:1]<blockquote>I was interested in the question of what the objects we leave behind say about ourselves.</blockquote>Retorta and his director of photography Fraser Rigg create a cinematic atmosphere in this setting with subdued and subtle lighting, complimenting the art direction by Louis Simonon, and allowing&nbsp;the plaintive&nbsp;refrain of Moccio's Halston&nbsp;to flourish&nbsp;as an emotional soundtrack to the human stories that accompany each object.&nbsp;And the understated performance by Linda Edmonds as the lost property officer provides a&nbsp;focus for the sense of loss and loneliness evoked by the music."I was interested in exploring the question of ‘what do the objects we leave behind tell us about ourselves?’," says Joao Retorta.&nbsp;"This setting works as a vehicle for us to look at these items and question their previous lives and owners,&nbsp;and how they&nbsp;came to be lost. "I wanted to create something that subtly explores life in the city by looking at the objects that its people left behind. Hopefully I achieved it to some degree.

Henry Dean has directed a fascinating music documentary for MJ Cole's first album in 17 years - and his first classical/ambient album -&nbsp;MJ Cole Presents&nbsp;Madrugada.Shot in Ukraine, in Kiev and Odessa, Dean's doc follows the lives of several unconnected individuals - the surfer, the mother, the lovers, the shepherd and the clubber. As it turns out, they are all linked by time: the fact that they are up and awake at the time of day when everyone else is asleep - just before dawn.The project has also become the basis for a number of&nbsp;music videos for tracks from the new MJ Cole album - still scenes which change from darkness tolight as dawn breaks, and a shorter, alternate version of the documentary for the track <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZGvEe12So4" target="_blank">Cathedral</a>.&nbsp;

The emotional pain of a break-up&nbsp;is studied through a series of&nbsp;long takes in&nbsp;Mike Baldwin's video for Rhys Lewis.&nbsp;The video for When Was The Last Time starts by introducing the main characters in closeup shots, each in different settings&nbsp;but all connected by the tumultuous emotions that come with ending a relationship. Through slow, revealing zooms, each vignette unfolds to reveal their partner, and we realise we are witnessing the crucial moment of a break-up in each case.Intimate and heartwrenching performances capture the mood of the track without revealing too much information. We never find out any backstory to these scenarios&nbsp;- we don't have to. DoP&nbsp;Benedict Spence utilises simple composition and camera movement to keep the focus on the heart of the concept, and the leisurely pace of the edit allows viewers to linger on each moment.In each case its clear that the person we initially focus on is digesting the news that they are no longer loved. But in Rhys Lewis's own situation, Baldwin adds another twist. This is an emotional and very satisfying video for a sad song.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
