Promo News - 17th Dec 2014

As the year draws to a close, it's time to review what we have done this year - and have another look at the very large number of music videos featured on Promo News in 2014. So let's take things by category, starting with animation...

And much like every other year since the dawn of the music promo, 2014 saw some outstanding animated music videos. But while the painstaking, time-consuming labours of the animator has always been part-and-parcel of the job, this year we saw stuff that made the seven labours of Hercules look like a Sunday stroll.

The prime example has to be Nicos Livesey and Tom Bunker's video for Tharsis Sleeps by Throne (Nicos's own band) - a psychedelic space adventure made on embroidery machines, and taking eight months to complete. But we also had James' Moving On by Ainslie Henderson, created from yarn, and Tobias Stretch's handmade family in his Christopher Bono video, animated through a harsh Philadelphia winter.

Of course there are all sorts, and much more conventional types of animation here, from stop-motion to flash animation, hand-drawn to CGI. We've kept our list of, in our opinion, the best animated music videos of 2014 featured on Promo News, to the all-animated variety. A very hard task, but here's the playlist...

Have we missed something great? If your own favourite isn't here, why not add in our new comments section below...
