A small family gathering descends into madness in Swedish directing duo BABYBABY's promo for Superintendent McCupcakes.In the video, McCupcakes (real name Tony) loses consciousness and is brought back, time and time again, to an increasingly weird and uncomfortable reality, with the help of a trigger-happy paramedic armed with defibrillators.The desaturated, filmic aesthetic contrasts the absurd mayhem of the concept, and the ending scene feels more suited to a contemporary horror chase scene than a music video - and that's the brilliance of the video."It’s been years since we made a music video, and the ideas were starting to pile up," say BABYBABY. "So we wrote a script with everything we were into at the moment: Dutch techno subcultures, yuppies, 90s IKEA catalogs, awkward family photos, smiling people crawling, smiling people running, smiling people sliding off sofas, etc, etc."The label said 'great, you go do your thing'. And so we did."

Charlie Robins directs a hypnotic promo for The Comet Is Coming. Unabashedly wild and atmospheric, the visual sees a small group of people driven insane by an enigmatic force, visualised in the form of a circle. Kept purposefully vague, Robins combines live action with elements of animation, demanding viewers to come to their own conclusion as to what's happening. One thing's for sure, it's not your everyday scenario."This was always going to be pretty nuts," says Robins. "I had a great conversation with the band about the new album called Hyper Dimensional Expansion Beam. That name was enough of a jumping off point, and I just threw a load of crazy shit at it. It felt right to be weird and post-apocalyptic but also disorientating and fucked up. I wanted to make people feel a bit sick in all honesty."The music is so crazy yet intricately put together, there is something beautifully chaotic about it which fit very well with some post and camera techniques I’ve been developing for a while."I worked very closely with the immense team at Agile (particularly the post guys!) to make this film happen. What a seriously talented, generous and wonderful bunch of humans they are."

Ali Gill directs a twisted comedy for InTechnicolour, drawn from the parable of The Scorpion & The Frog . The video for The Wave is a human adaptation of the said parable, and follows a parasitic teenager who persuades a stranger to carry him to his destination - and the subsequent events that unfold between them that day.Brilliantly weird and offbeat, it's a video that lingers after watching it, and owes a huge amount to the creative concept and the top-notch performances."It was important for the video to have this uncanny, deadpan tone," says Gill. "A lot of this came from the performance: we experimented a lot before shooting on what might be the most abnormal - and almost disturbing - method of carrying another human, which is present in most of the shots of the video."I wanted to capture the oddity of the actors in quite a composed and dispassionate manner - the video comprising largely of static wides. We were often shooting from afar on long lenses, with the actors performing amongst the public. Perhaps characteristic of South London, the sight of a man being dragged across the pavement caused no one to bat an eye. I love that."

Director Charles Gall unleashes a little bit of madness for Sports Team's latest promo, where lead singer Alex Rice becomes the hapless contestant in a sadistic game show. Welcome to 'The Game', where life's hard but you can't complain...We see Alex sitting at home, flicking through TV when he comes across a surreal gameshow, and signs up to land a guest spot. Before long, he is shaking hands with the eccentric presenter - played by veteran singer-songwriter John Otway - and enters into an increasingly unappealing set of tasks.Meanwhile, the rest of the band are among the audience, all too willing to subject Alex to demeaning and painful 'games' - including a real-life version of the board game Operation, and a ruck with the entire group dressed as animals, and finally ending up as an angel harrassed by a mob of devils.It's a vibe that perfectly suits the London-based indie-rock group, and Rice manages to amp up the charm even when getting stomped on by giant animal feet...

Charles Gall directs a visually arresting promo for up and coming Leeds-based band English Teacher.To say the video is offbeat would be a huge understatement - from awkward Dad dancing to folk horror vibes and a grisly finalé, the concept demands your full attention, and will leave viewers questioning what they just spent four minutes watching. The slow zooms and haunting costumes elevate the weird vibes, and a brilliant performance from vocalist Lily Fontaine acts as the glue which blends the gorgeous vignettes.

Joseph Giffard Tutt directs a surreal promo for his music ensemble The White Russian. Inspiration for the idea originated from the paintings of Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte, best known for his witty, thought-provoking images. The playful visuals blend everyday objects with protruding faces, whilst interacting with various elements of the landscape, like strumming pylon cables and disembodied hands beating a drum.Each object in the video exerts its own right to consciousness, but also remains limited by the rootedness of its particular state or transience of its existence.Joseph explains: "I kept seeing faces in objects, and once the idea hit me, it could not be ignored.” So he set out on his independently-made labour of love, shooting the footage for the Cancer Knee visual with a skeleton crew, then doing all the visual effects and editing work himself. The result is a singular vision, a love letter to the era of music videos when visionaries like Michel Gondry loomed large - and made in complete disregard of any industry expectations.
