Will Clark and Jamie Chalmers direct Theatre Of The Absurd, an inventive, rule-breaking promo for the original Nutty Boys, spanning three self-described 'acts' that feature different songs from their new, chart-topping album C'est La Vie. All shot in the same empty studio environment, with minimal art direction changes for each act, it begins with montage of rotating camerawork, circling around the different members of Madness as they play the track Round We Go in a darkened, spotlit space. The second act ups the theatricality of the concept, with the black-garbed band against a bordello-red palette performing the album's title track C'est La Vie, where lead singer Suggs begins to assert his personality in time-honoured fashion. Then in the final act, for Baby Burglar, Clark and Chalmers introduce prison bars into the studio setting - monochromatic and slightly sinister, with a stylistic link to Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock. It's a brilliant video for the fans, playing to the band's strengths and keeps things fun, breezy and laidback. What more could you ask for?
