Madonna is back and collaborating with directing duo TORSO (David Toro and Solomon Chase) on her most ambitious music video for a very long time. Or even... ever?

In her remarkable four decade career its hard to recall Madonna doing anything quite like this before: a ten minute film showcasing six tracks from her forthcoming album Confessions II, a sequel to her 20 year old album Confessions On The Dancefloor.

It's labelled as a visual work that blurs the boundaries between music video, short film and performance art. And it was premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival ahead of its release, staking a claim about its place as cinematic art and entertainment, best enjoyed on the big screen.   

And it certainly is a blockbuster, the result of brilliant work behind the camera, and a fantastic array of 'co-stars' in front of it, including Sabrina Carpenter, Julia Garner, Lourdes Leon, Debi Mazar - and Benedict Cumberbatch. 

Most importantly, this is Madonna as we want to see her. She's the one who can justifiably described as the greatest music video pop star of them all. So it feels right that Madonna is also the one who is taking the medium into new territory in terms of how its consumed and enjoyed. And with some help from her friends, it puts her back on her pedestal.
