Joe Bentley Morgan explores the feeling of letting go, using a relationship to symbolise how happy periods in life are fleeting but leave a lasting impression in his video for Hertfordshire singer and rapper mustbejohn.

The video for From the Start centres on themes of nostalgia, vulnerability, and the early stages of love, reflected in the song’s bittersweet, reminiscent tone. Shot on a mixture of 16mm film - Kodak 7213, 7219 and expired 7207- to reflect the bittersweet moments of the past, alongside present-day reflections filmed digitally, Bentley Morgan and DoP Joe Hill capture the sense that John is narrating the story of the relationship.

It was filmed in Southend and Dungeness, the locations symbolising different periods of the relationship with footage on the train representing the passage of time as the relationship develops. The result is a stirring accompaniment to the track and another strong showcase for mustbejohn from the director who has worked with him on several previous releases - including Wheelspin.
