Thundercat ft Mac Miller 'She Knows Too Much' by Léa Esmaili

David Knight - 18th Feb 2026
Thundercat's posthumous reunion with old sparring partner Mac Miller on She Knows Too Much becomes a suitably mindblowing, ultimately poignant multi-media action-comedy cartoon directed by Léa Esmaili.
In the video the pair are thrown together from their respective homes and proceed on a very trippy trip: a rhythmic, burlesque fever dream rooted in friendship, chaos and anime-inspired adventure.
The video opens on Thunder and Mac living directly opposite each other, both simultaneously being kicked out by their respective girlfriends. Their belongings are hurled from windows, raining down into the street and hitting the pavement like discarded chewing gum. Just as the chaos peaks, an interdimensional portal tears open between the two houses. A 1964 Chevy Impala emerges. The doors swing open. Thunder and Mac get in. From there, reality fractures.
Each time the duo fall into a new universe, the animation style transforms - shifting between 2D and 3D, and across distinct visual languages - while maintaining a singular artistic direction and pulsating rhythm throughout. Houses flip, streets morph into sprawling cities and worlds collide in a seamless ecosystem of evolving styles.
A key creative focus was character design. Esmaili spent extensive time exploring how both Mac and Thundercat would appear across these shifting dimensions, crafting bold, badass interpretations that adapt fluidly to each animated universe.
In this Blinkink production, Esmaili Esmaili collaborated with a roster of distinctive animation talents, including Joshua Clauss, Louise Bailly, Thomas Bertrand, Turçin Soylu, Lola Lefèvre, Tom Jeanbourquin and Valentin Gaubert, fusing their individual styles into one cohesive animated multiverse.
Independent VFX studio Mathematic, a benchmark in both the French and international VFX landscape, were brought on board to help create the film’s dynamic transitions and technical wizardry, ensuring the rhythm pulses consistently even as the visual style mutates.
Esamili says she is thrilled to have had the opportunity to make the video. “ [It's] a huge honour, as I grew up with these two artists and have admired their universe since I was a teenager," she says. "I wanted to create, within a single video, a fun animated moment by mixing styles either in 2D animation or 3D.
"Beyond that, I wanted to build a burlesque narrative around two friends who spend a completely crazy day together, tied to their friendship and to anime of this kind.”
The result can only be described as a mixed-media odyssey that feels as unpredictable and electrifying as the artists themselves. It's also consistent with the pattern of posthumously released material by Mac Miller being accompanied by an animated video - including the promo for Balloonerism, which won Best Animation at the UK Music Video Awards last year.
It turns out that Miller was a big fan of the Blink-produced cult series Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, and She Knows Too Much is a result of discussions over a long period between the Miller estate and Blinkink about a collaboration.
“Working with Mac Miller and Thundercat was a truly special milestone for us in the studio," says Josef Byrne, Executive Producer at Blinkink. "The team felt deeply honoured and humbled especially to finally work with the Mac Miller estate.”
