Lynda Dawn '11th Hour' by Ricky Rxse
Promonews - 20th Sept 2024
Ricky Rxse directs the music video for soul singer Lynda Dawn's gorgeous 11th Hour, blending the nostalgic charm of 1960s and 1970s black-and-white cinema with avant-garde retro-futurism and modern aesthetics, in keeping with the classic '70s soul influences on the track.
Rxse’s signature approach highlights the importance of authenticity, using intentional camera movement, precise composition, and dynamic symmetry to elevate the visual narrative. Lynda Dawn’s expressive movements strike a delicate balance between polished performance and raw, unscripted moments, giving viewers a glimpse of both the confident artist and the introspective individual.
The film captures moments of vulnerability, as the artist's inner thoughts begin to surface, pulling her into an internal struggle. The visual journey mirrors a metamorphosis, evolving from feelings of imposter syndrome to a raw confrontation with self-doubt. The final transformation reflects her embracing both strength and fragility, as she transitions from hidden to fully revealed, embodying the balance between them.
“Many creatives, including myself, often wrestle with impostor syndrome, and I believe this piece reflects that emotional journey, as it explores what it means to step into your own power," says Ricky Rxse. "I’m immensely proud of how this video not only showcases Lynda’s artistry but also reflects the collective creativity of everyone involved. While directors often receive much of the credit, this project was truly a collaborative effort.
"What makes The 11th Hour even more special is that it’s the first project from our production company, Roses in Brooklyn, which was also supported by the brilliant 1stAveMachine. The themes felt especially fitting for our debut, and we couldn't have asked for a more powerful narrative to mark this milestone.”
