MWS 'Fingertips' by Daniel Fletcher
Rob Ulitski - 2nd Nov 2023
Daniel Fletcher combines realism with some aspirational fantasy for MWS, as the West London rapper dreams of greater success and fame, and starts appearing on posters, billboards and vinyl covers, performing Fingertips.
The video starts with MWS at home in his high-rise, having a smoke, before the familiarity is disturbed by a surprising occurance: MWS in the posters on the wall, performing the song. As he steps outside, the trick is repeated as billboard and banners around London come to life. And wherever he goes a 2001-style rectangle of light is close by.
With a subtle dose of VFX and experimental narrative elements, the video takes viewers on an enjoyable trippy adventure from scene to scene, paying homage to his humble West London roots.
The gritty, naturalistic textures contrast with the surreal 'portals' and VFX elements, signifying both the journey to get where he is and the one that lies ahead.
