Stealing Sheep 'Blister In The Sun' by Tommy Husband
David Knight - 20th July 2022
Tommy Husband delivers wonderfully off-kilter visuals for Liverpool band Stealing Sheep's art-pop take on an 80s alternative classic.
Husband goes DIY and Day-Glo with the video for the trio's radical reworking of Violent Femmes' Blister In The Sun, filming them in Merseyside's open, post-industral spaces resplendent in flourescent jumpsuits, and in Vessel Studios in Liverpool wearing super-sized jumpsuits - intercutting with simple signs and paintings and other visual devices.
Assisted by Essie May and Caroline Smith, Husband's resourcefully lo-fi video captures the experimentation and wit of Stealing Sheep's cover version, with something of a nod to old school art-pop videos, with the emphasis on ideas over production values.
Stealing Sheep have explained that the track and accompanying video were inspired by their collective restlessness, caused by the pandemic.
“During lockdown we savoured our time walking and going outside… our freedom was limited to ‘one walk a day’ and this track is a bit of a ‘time capsule’ for this period in our lives…finding appreciation and connection to nature and our surroundings in a built-up city area.“
