Glass Animals 'Heat Waves' (Live for The Tonight Show) by Beki Mari
Rob Ulitski - 16th May 2022
Beki Mari directs a dazzling live video for Glass Animals' sleeper hit phenomenon Heat Waves, shot at the Dreamland theme park in Margate for the band's recent guest spot on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
Glass Animals' frontman Dave Bayley roams the Americana-style park, which is buzzing with light and colour but deserted save from his performing bandmates - which also shares the name with the album (released in 2020) from which this huge hit came.
Mari has made extensive use of FPV drone technology to create a dizzying camera moves around Bayley while he performs. It's a very successful conceptualisation of the nostalgic world evoked by the song, and beautifully executed.
There is also a tinge of loneliness to the concept, highlighting the absence of crowds and collective fun due to the Covid-19 lockdowns, during which this was filmed - epitomised by the atmospheric shot of Bayley's walking among the huge letters of the Dreamland sign.
