Desirée Dawson 'Meet You At The Light' by Alexander Farah
Promonews - 28th Mar 2022
A bittersweet and heartfelt portrait of a young woman and her diabetic father, Alexander Farah's film for Canadian singer-songwriter Desirée Dawson's Meet You At The Light, released six months ago, has now won two big awards in the past two weeks - International Grand Prix at The Sharks' Music Video Awards, and winner of both the Jury Award and the Audience Award in the Music Videos section at SXSW Film Festival 2022.
With the lead roles played by Ishaval Gill and her father Kamaldevinder Gill, and with Harinder Saini, Balinder Johal and Shrey Vyas as family members, Farah begins at the end of the story, in the painful scene of the father's funeral, before going back to happier times and then following the story of his declining health through several powerful scenes.
Experienced DoP Farhad Ghaderi worked alongside Alexander Farah on his first music video - who chose to cast a non-actor in Kamaldevinder Gill in the crucial role of the father - a gamble that has paid off very effectively.
The jury of the Music Videos category at the SXSW Film Festival this year has been effusive in their praise for their winner. “Without a single detail wasted, we were all moved to tears by this powerful story from a first-time music video director. Featuring equally beautiful performances, editing, and cinematography, we present the Best Music Video award to Desirée Dawson - Meet Me at the Light by Alexander Farah.”
