Griff 'Black Hole' (for The Late Show) by Pip + Lib
Rob Ulitski - 25th June 2021
Pip + Lib direct a dynamic live performance of Griff's Black Hole for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Taking place within a nondescript industrial setting, the inspiration for the location was drawn from the song title, and what the bottom of this dark pit alluded to in the lyrics could look like.
Griff's performance is punchy yet understated, and perfectly suits the minimal concept.
PIP + LIB:
We started to imagine what the bottom of a black hole looked like.
"We have been dying to do a live performance since we started directing this time last year. Pandemic times have really made live a whole THING, and as baby directors who have only known shoots that start with Covid tests and end with elbow bumps, in some ways it felt significant that a year on we were shooting our first live for one of our favourite artists.
"Griff is an incredible performer, and before we even wrote an idea for her, we spent hours watching everything she has ever made, to really understand what we can do to help her performance thrive.
"We started to imagine what the bottom of a black hole looked like, and the idea went from there, we liked the feeling that it could be a space of broken walls and bright blue sky ceilings."
