Kai 'Fade Away' by Allie Avital
Allie Avital's second video for Kia is an otherworldly experience, where the singer-songwriter observes the city from her apartment, and begins an extraordinary transformation when she sees a single fish pressed against her window.
Avital collaborated with DoP Sonja Tsypin - her sister - who shot developed the dreamlike quality of the piece through a dramatic and sensual visual style, while she directed remotely.
Inspired by events in the world from climate change to the impact of Covid, Avital perceives the world as a sort of fish tank, and the planet heaing itself without humanity - hence Kia's rebirth into a marine-friendly form...
ALLIE AVITAL:
It was such a luxury to do a second video with an openminded artist such as Kai.
“This video was inspired by all the stories of animals emerging during the pandemic - dolphins in canals and goats in the streets, etc - nature healing itself as humanity lays low.
"Directed remotely from New York and shot in LA by my sister Sonja, it was such a luxury to do a second video with an openminded artist such as Kai. And then working with the brilliant animator Erik Ferguson again to design the creatures made for a beautiful collaboration across many time zones in the heart of quarantine. “
