Michael Kiwanuka 'Solid Ground (Live At V&A)' by Raja Virdi
Promonews - 24th Sept 2020
Raja Virdi directs another of his signature one-shot live performances for Michael Kiwanuka as he performs Solid Ground with his band in the iconic paintings galley at the V&A Museum in London.
RAJA VIRDI:
To have the chance to shoot in the paintings gallery at The V&A was insane.
"I've worked with Michael before on an album teaser so it was lovely to be asked back to direct this live session. Michael is a wicked performer and this particular rendition with his band was something else.
"As soon as I heard we had The V&A it made it all that more exciting. Location is so important for my live performances, so to have the chance to shoot in the paintings gallery was insane. As always, I had my regular crew who did an insane job in executing my ideas. Rhys Warren on sharps, Beau Pritchard-James on Steadi, Jonny Boomer on lighting and Connor Coolbear at ETC, who gave it the perfect colour finish as always.
"Fun fact: we shot this piece in half day, graded in the evening and was released the next morning. Love a quick turnaround..."
