Regard, Raye 'Secrets' by Harry Lindley
Rob Ulitski - 23rd June 2020
Harry Lindley directs a spiritual successor to Regard's Ride It, in his futuristic promo for Secrets.
Interweaving CGI and remote performances from both Regard and Raye, the video narrative follows a motorcyclist who is drawn to a mysterious location, before being chased down by an unknown pursuer.
Slick and futuristic in its style, the video leans into more conceptual territory, and delivers a high-energy, quickfire succession of striking set pieces.
HARRY LINDLEY:
Quarantine has presented the industry with many obstacles, but it's also inspired artists and labels to take creative risks.
"We wanted to do something visually striking that, despite shooting restrictions, would feature RAYE and Regard as the main focus. We decided to go mostly CGI, so we cast Regard as an enigmatic biker embroiled in some kind of underground activity and filmed him remotely. He did a great job under the circumstances - it's not easy acting a car chase using just your face while being directed over Zoom in a different language! RAYE also turned in a great performance, improvising scenes by her car and around her house, all shot by her sister Lauren, to populate the virtual pile of TVs.
"It was important to establish a continuity between this promo and Regard's previous video for Ride It, so we created virtual replicas of some of the locations and devised a similar colour palette and lighting style. Quarantine has presented the industry with many obstacles, but it's also inspired artists and labels to take creative risks. It was a pleasure to collaborate Ministry Of Sound on this project - they were committed to the concept and made sure we had everything we needed to meet the deadline."
