Chris Holsten 'Wish I Never Met You' by Ola Martin Fjeld
Rob Ulitski - 12th Mar 2020
A Best Dance Video winner at the UKMVAs back in 2013, director Ola Martin Fjeld returns to music videos with a dance-driven concept, this time for Chris Holsten.
The Norwegian artist dives headfirst into the choreography, sharing the space with an enigmatic partner who matches his unabashed energy. Cutting between dance and conceptual setups, DP Jørgen Werner gives each scene its own aesthetic, utilising coloured lights and patterns to provide contrast.
Tonje Robbestad Jåsund's makeup work is also brilliant, transforming the pair into ethereal beings, sparkling under the blue strobe lights. A glorious return to music videos for the director.
OLA MARTIN FJELD:
I'm pretty sure you'll still find glitter in the studio five years from now.
"I wanted to enhance the darkness in the lyrics and create a narrative through dance. The intention was to show a relationship that has become poisonous to the degree that you wish you never met the love of your life. We talked a lot about giving the video a kind of '80s epic feel without the '80s aesthetic.
"Not an easy task on a small budget, but we had a great team, and both the artist and Warner Music believed in the idea. So the process became dynamic and fun; I feel it shows in the final result. We had a blast making this video, even though the cleaning job after the shoot became huge. I am pretty sure you will still find glitter in the studio five years from now."
