Future ft. Drake 'Life Is Good' by Director X
Rob Ulitski - 17th Jan 2020
Director X turns rap superstars Drake and Future into co-workers of more humble persuasions in the video for Life Is Good.
Hanging from the back of a garbage disposal truck, the two artists look unrecognisable. Totally understated, blending into their environment seamlessly, this isn't your average hip-hop video.
Cycling through comedic vignettes of different occupations and workplaces, the pair work as (barely disguised) Apple Store Geniuses, IT workers, fastfood chefs - and and even jump onto the other side of camera as 1st AD and DP.
It's a tongue-in-cheek style video with plenty of meta references and Director X stamps his style and quality on it firmly, executing a fresh and exciting concept in the genre. Finally he makes a telling cameo himself in which his directing monicker appears as a credit, and then crossed out, replaced by his real name: Julien Christian Lutz.
Drake and Future shine in their respective roles, showing a talent for comedic timing and buddy movie-levels of on-screen chemistry.
