Liam Gallagher 'One Of Us' by Anthony Byrne
Rob Ulitski - 30th Aug 2019
Nostalgia takes hold in the video for Liam Gallagher's One Of Us. Written by Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight, and directed by Season 5 director Anthony Byrne, we see Gallagher climb a hill populated by large photographs of his childhood, shot across different time periods of his life.
He then comes face-to-face with himself as a young child and as a teenage boy, and the three versions of Gallagher explore the vast landscape in haunting scenes focused on longing and reflection. The idea of time rushing by and lost moments is further explored with some clever in-camera trickery by DoP David Chizallet, with the cast appearing and disappearing from screen via sweeping camera movements, reminding viewers they are transcendent memories of a time gone by.
The choice to shoot the video in black and white gives it a gritty aesthetic, whilst also helping tie the different time periods together, giving it a universal and timeless appeal.
