Elderbrook & Rudimental 'Something About You' by Luke Davies

Rob Ulitski - 20th Aug 2019
We know men aren’t brilliant at talking about feelings, so instead of talking... Luke Davies's clever and poignant video for Elderbrook & Rudimental takes us into a form of therapy explored through the medium of dance.
All of the characters in the film for one reason or another, have lost their confidence, their mojo, their feeling of being a man - whatever that is. They’re all somewhat ashamed and scared to be vulnerable, but through the course of this self-help group, and in turn the dance.... They rebuild together.
LUKE DAVIES:
We shot this on the hottest day of the year...so sorry to Dean for making him wear double denim
"The feeling I was trying to capture here, the theme we built the entire video around, is this idea of how fragile masculinity can be. We wanted the film to act as a portrait of the dismantled male ego, sheepishly coming together for this beautiful, somewhat clunky dance video.
"The social standards of what being a man entails drips into the subconscious of every young boy whether they know it or not. And you only need to glance over the mental health and suicide numbers in young men to see how much of a problem it is.
"We shot this on the hottest day of the year when temperatures reached 39 degrees so I wanted to say a particularly huge thanks to our cast and crew who kept the vibes high throughout and worked incredibly hard... And a big sorry to Dean for making him wear double denim for the day!"
