J Churcher 'Riding on Your Love' by Jaro Minne
Luke Bather - 19th Jan 2017
Jaro Minne crafts a simple, slow-burning dance narrative in sparse desert landscape for J Churcher's Riding On Your Love.
A woman walks across a desert, appearing dwarfed in the frame by the vastness of the terrain until a mysterious meeting with a man on a motorcycle leads to some delicately choreographed interplay between the two. A beautiful piece with a considered approach to themes of romantic reunion.
JARO MINNE:
"I was intrigued by the track and the hazy energy of Borderland State. Riding On Your Love inspired me to create a video set in the vast landscapes of Eastern Georgia. I wanted to convey an evocative but fragile intensity that mirrors the track. A sensation of longing. Something slightly mythical.
"There was a simple narrative premise: a woman and a man have an unexpected, mysterious reunion, rediscovering and reconsidering each other with movement language. I tried to approach the choreography purely as a vehicle for their discovery. The man transmits energy to her with slow-paced incidental movements." (from Nowness)
