Austra 'Future Politics' by Allie Avital
Allie Avital looks to the end of the known world with Austra's Future Politics.
Opening with a desaturated sequence of aerial shots of complex systems of traffic and crowded public spaces, the claustrophobic dreariness of modernity seeps into this video's opening third. A lucky few seem to get struck down with a colourful nosebleed that keeps them dancing before they abandon all notion of their previous lives and everything becomes a little bit more colourful.
Minimalist greyness then gives way to hyper-real oversaturation and before you realise it, you've crossed a threshold into something unrecognisable, but something quite freeing too.
