Bastille 'Fake It' by Crooked Cynics
Luke Bather - 25th Aug 2016
Crooked Cynics fake it with Bastille in this deceptively simple piece of political commentary. Primarily featuring one charismatic speaker, we watch an impassioned international broadcast that appears jovial at first, before the cracks start to show.
The more we delve into this video, the more it seems as if we're looking into a window of our dystopian near-future. Depending on your political leanings and where you are in the world, you can project your feelings directly onto the protagonist. You only have to look as far as the YouTube comments to see that ("it's Trump. No, it's David Cameron. NO it's Angela Merkel!", etc).
The use of coloured lights and various studio monitors really help to shape a purposefully confusing message, where perception and reality go head-to-head. Ah, politics...
