Sample Answer 'Collision' by Pint
Cat Velez - 15th Apr 2016
PINT - that is, NFTS graduate Peter Pint - has created an engrossing video for Maurice O'Connor AKA Sample Answer's Collision, set around a car crash in the woods, from which O'Connor is seemingly being rescued by a woman who comes across the wreckage.
But their relationship is a bit more complicated that that, as the woman's expressive dance takes us through her emotional journey, and the car crash shows its full metaphorical meaning. This was a process that took weeks of preparation by O'Connor and actress/dancer Becks Rosen, and choreographed by Annie Deakin-Foster.
The Collision video itself was shot in Coldharbour Wood in Surrey, with the 80s Jag, says the producer MZL, sourced from a local breakers yard, and the Alpha Sud also after a long search for '80s marques. "Both delivery tow tucks got stuck in the mud but luckily managed to pull each other out!"
PINT:
“Collision is a really emotional and contemplative song. I want you to feel that same sense of desolation and helplessness that the song has. To me there is a delicate sense of hope and loss in it which I love. In a way it reminds me a quote from Nietzsche that says 'Hope is the worst of evils for it prolongs the torments of man'.
"I wanted to turn this story into a really intense and cinematic film, capable of stimulating your senses and making you feel intrigued by it. What I liked about the idea is that encapsulates the feeling of the song. There's love, mystery and ambiguity throughout all the story and we never really know what's going to happen next."
