Foxtrott 'Shaky Hands' by Kevin Calero
Cat Velez - 9th Dec 2015
Kevin Calero's video for Montreal-based singer/producer Marie-Helene L. Delorme aka Foxtrott's Driven, focused on contemporary dance movement, choreographed by Calero's regular collaborator Wynn Holmes, set against scenic Cheltenham Badlands and The Beach, in the outskirts of Toronto. Now the video for Foxtrott's Shaky Hands expands on the visual language initially explored in that first video, at an even more spectacular location.
This time around, the setting is a vast quarry situated four hours north of Montreal, and Calero describes the concept as a "vertical climb through various stages of inner turmoil." While Holmes's choreography highlights the song's musical structure through human movement, the camera scrolls upwards revealing more walls of rock - from which the dancers eventually try to escape.Â
The result is mesmerising interpretation of the idea of 'survival of the fittest' - and Calero and company leave the best to last.
