Ryan Teague 'Last Known Position' by Björn Rühmann
David Knight - 4th June 2015
He's already made a big impression with his videos for Herbert Bail Orchestra and Paul Kalkbrenner, but the excitement around German director Björn Rühmann's music video directing career is set to increase, as a result of this compelling piece of work for Bristol-born composer Ryan Teague's Last Known Position.
Shot in an East London tower block, it follows a young woman's night of sleepwalking through the building: her unconscious meandering leading her into subconscious and primal behaviour, creepy encounters with rats, spiders and young men. It's fascinating, sometimes funny, ultimately heartbreaking, and suffused with a growing sense of dread.
The visuals fuse superbly with Teague's electronica - itself somewhat reminiscent of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, the music famously used on the soundtrack of The Exorcist. Without going into the same territory, this also has a vulnerable, transformed young female as its central character, and also holds a vice-like grip on the viewer.
