Paul Gore's second video for Paloma Faith - in a three-part series for Paloma's album A Perfect Contradiction - is more focussed than his previous multi-narrative effort for Can't Rely On You, and more powerful. In fact, this is a tremendous pop promo. 

Shot by Dan Landin, a DoP who began his career shooting some of the best music videos in the 1990s, Only Love Can Hurt Like This looks stunning from the start. The performance and dramatic set-ups are beautifully composed - but then it just gets better.

When Paloma plunges into the pool, prepare for no ordinary underwater sequence. Her passionate performance continues unabated. The effect is gobsmacking, and the video enters its epic phase. It feels even more like a pop promo production of the old school - helmed superbly by Paul Gore, a director with the talent and experience to make it happen. When you see videos like this, you realise what we've been missing.
