Suede 'For The Strangers' by Ben Lankester
David Knight - 23rd Sept 2013
Suede marked their comeback earlier this year with a triumphant show at London's Alexandra Palace in March - and the video for For The Strangers (the single from the band's new album Bloodsports) is comprised of footage from that show, directed by Ben Lankester.
At the core is the band's frontman Brett Anderson, of course – as charismatic a performer as ever, and arguably looking better than ever. But as director and editor, Ben Lankester captures the atmosphere and emotion of this momentous gig – a decade on from the band's acrimonious split – and then makes it work as a fully-fledged promo for the recorded version of the song.
That's hard to do well, and he's made a very great job of it.
