Hector Dockrill directs a heartwrenching promo for new Lewis Capaldi track Pointless.&nbsp;The narrative for the video captures a mother-son relationship with beautiful and heart-breaking intimacy. Spanning a couple of decades, the concept follows a&nbsp;single mother who strives against all odds to give her son the life she never had, and is packed with an emotional punch.&nbsp;With a wonderful performance&nbsp;from&nbsp;BAFTA winner Niamh Algar (The Virtues, Raised by Wolves)&nbsp;and three actors playing the son at different stages of his life - including Charley Palmer-Rothwell as her grown-up son -&nbsp;the video reinterprets the song's lyrics to explore a different type of relationship, and it works perfectly.[imgtoken data:1]The naturalistic cinematography and relatable themes help make the video feel incredibly realistic and universal, and it will no doubt have viewers thinking about their own loved ones as we enter the festive period.&nbsp;With mixed dialogue throughout, we both hear and see glimpses into the ups and downs of their daily lives over the years including financial hardship and the tightrope of being a working single parent. And in keeping with the theme of family, Laura Dockrill – Hector’s sister - wrote the script, making this a family affair both on and off screen.“Lewis had a beautiful idea that focused on the mother/son bond, and how responsibility shifts as you grow older," says Hector Dockrill. "Niamh Algar is a phenomenal talent and we’re already chomping at the bit to work together again. With only a week’s prep, she managed to immerse herself into the role and completely make it her own. What is it? Well, the clue is very much in the songtitle.It's a winning concept, which plays to the strengths and the chemistry of Loski and Stormzy, and provides a series of engaging episodes as they service an&nbsp;increasingly upscale clientele.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Harry Wheeler experiments with vibrant lighting and buoyant camerawork to match the steady flow of the track, allowing the charming performances to take focus. And it's a confident step by Joao Retorta into building a narrative around a pair of charismatic artists.&nbsp;

Raine Allen-Miller certainly does, and she has written, performed and made a video for a song to celebrate&nbsp;that fact.Allen-Miller has recruited the help of women from across the globe - including&nbsp;Seoul, New South Wales, Tiblisi, New York and Los Angeles - to help her make her own distinctive quarantine film called Wank Wiggle, dedicated&nbsp;to female pleasure and encouraging women to get to know their anatomy during lockdown.She remotely directed her cast through a series of Zoom shoots - and Allen-Miller also stars in the film, singing her own catchy lyrics to the Wank Wiggle tune:&nbsp;"...could be a dildo,&nbsp;could be a love-stick, could be a vibrator, or just simply an index finger;&nbsp;It could be a washing machine,&nbsp;It could be a shower head,&nbsp;It could be a teddy bear,&nbsp;A toothbrush (the spare),&nbsp;A toothpick...&nbsp;OUCH!"All together now...

Henry Scholfield is back with Dua Lipa. Following on from his monumental UKMVA-winning videos for New Rules&nbsp;and IDGAF,&nbsp;Scholfield has created another visual feast for Break My Heart - taken from her just-released second album Future Nostalgia -&nbsp;utilising clever camera trickery,&nbsp;great choreography and perfectly stylised production design to create this epic&nbsp;emotional narrative.We follow Dua on her journey as scenarios materialise and&nbsp;amplify the emotional state, illustrated here through fast-paced transitions and&nbsp;setups, mirroring the heartfelt lyrics.&nbsp;The video which was shot in Bulgaria uses a colour palette of early Almodóvar mashed up with mid 90s styling via the iridescent surreal-scapes of Japanese love hotels. Production had their work cut out with VFX, choreography, wire work, stunts - and a tilting set. The sets were built across three stages, and beautifully realised by production designer Mark Connell.Scholfield explains: “I wanted to create something that felt like that tumble dryer of emotions when falling for someone who’s pulling away from you. Dua’s perfomance was brilliant (as always!) taking us on her journey from vulnerable to empowered, via her playful cheeky-charming self.”And the video, single and the album release were all brought forward,&nbsp;despite the Coronavirus pandemic, on Dua Lipa's command. She states: “I hope it brings you some happiness, and I hope it makes you smile, and I hope it makes you dance."&nbsp;

As he explained in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/interviews/work-life-tom-hardiman-somesuch/63465" target="_blank">our recent interview with him</a>, Tom Hardiman employed VR tech to create his new (two-dimensional)&nbsp;video for Mura Masa.The video is a classic warehouse rave scene, but it was&nbsp;shot using a sophisticated 360˚rig, usually found on the "bottom of helicopters for&nbsp;Mission Impossible&nbsp;films."The footage was then stitched together, transitioning between multiple spheres, and editing between flattened out 360˚ video files. As such the video is genuinely experimental."A&nbsp;proper brain melt," said Tom. "It’s hard thinking beyond the rectangle…"

Shaped unmistakably like a frown, it is home to an all but forgotten fishing village that has had perpetual cloud cover for as long as anyone can remember."The inhabitants of Eroda aren't happy people. The gloomy depression causes&nbsp;people to have a permanent "resting fish face", and are fiercely superstitious, wary about anything that threatens their lives or mindsets.&nbsp;Into this inhospitable setting comes a boy born&nbsp;&nbsp;with a dangerously bright smile, who inadvertently causes havoc whenever he opens his mouth.&nbsp;Styles takes on the role of the boy, who befriends a fish and takes care of it through an escalating number of crazy situations. As he wrestles with his own emotions and the impatient inhabitants of Eroda, will he get a happy ending?It's a hugely ambitious and beautifully executed video, where the attention to detail to styling, wardrobe and production design - and dozens of VFX shots -&nbsp;help to bring the imaginary world to life.&nbsp;Meyers brings what has become his trademark brandof humour in his 'second coming' as a music video director. He is never afraid to explore the absurd whilst still keeping it grounded and emotionally affecting. Great stuff.

Sophia + Robert's epic six-part series for Askjell culminates in a whirlwind romance in Half Empty But Happy.&nbsp;Starting where we left off in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/10/31/askjell-first-goodbye-sophia-robert/61609" target="_blank">The First Goodbye</a>, female lead Tin thrashes in the pool, captured in lo-fi underwater shots, before we see her in an apartment, being filmed by her love interest. Her wings are gone, perhaps suggesting that she isn't in such a rush to get away. She has found love, and everything in the first minute or so leads us to believe that this is an equal and complete romance.&nbsp;Through unusual, wide-angle shots, we see various displays of affection and the couple clowning around in different costumes, having the time of their life. As the story progresses, however, cracks start to appear. As Tin revisits the beach, she starts to obsess over the rocks, the location, the air. The male character walks into the pool where we last saw Tin, and starts to shiver erratically as he smokes a cigarette. He isn't accustomed to this life, and the cracks are starting to show.&nbsp;Slumped outside on a graffiti-covered wall, the couple's faces are stained with&nbsp;makeup around their eyes and face, a huge contrast to their natural and bare beauty at the beginning. Experimenting with different colours, different costumes and different personalities, the pair can't seem to make things fit.&nbsp;The ending depicts them both with their heads in the air, breathing deeply as a light burns white onto the screen. We aren't given a tight ending in a neat package, it's very much open to interpretation, which is the beauty of the Sophia + Robert's&nbsp;work. A&nbsp;stunning way&nbsp;to complete an ambitious project.&nbsp;

In the fourth video collaboration from Askjell's EP, Sophia + Robert continue their twisted avant-garde fantasy.&nbsp;In the opening, we see a girl with wings slumped on the floor by a&nbsp;pool. Her mind is elsewhere, as she stares right past the camera towards the sky. The narrative is very much a mystery-&nbsp;we are given short flashbacks of a time where the girl was in the water, thrashing around joyously, without the new additions on her back. But this isn't a narrative in the traditional sense, it very much veers&nbsp;into experimental territory, and viewers are not given many clues.&nbsp;The wings immediately conjure up religious or spiritual themes, such as a fallen angel or a dead girl who is revisiting the place she died. But just as easily, we could attribute this to her being an alien or a different kind of creature altogether. Sophia + Robert thrive with concepts that keep viewers on their toes and guessing, and this video is very much in the same vein.&nbsp;Beautifully cold and crisp, the muted colour palettes complement the stark minimalism of the piece, and a top-notch performance from actress Tin makes this a&nbsp;wonderfully offbeat and effective promo.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sophia+Robert's ambitious&nbsp;six part project for Norwegian electronic artist Askjell moves into more familiar pop video territory with the arrival of his fellow Norwegian, the ever-ethereal Aurora.&nbsp;The beautiful yet angst-ridden young couple who have driven <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/06/26/askjell-requiem-sophia-robert/59465" target="_blank">this series of visuals</a> accompanying Askjell's Autumn Autumn EP take a back seat to Aurora's elfin charisma.&nbsp;Once again in the Askjell project the video is distinguished by a fine edit by Sophia+Robert that goes into full overdrive at the end. It's off the hook, and&nbsp;it's all the better for it.

It's homage galore in the new video for Antisocial, directed by Dave Meyers, and if you've ever wanted to see Ed Sheeran in Day of the Dead makeup, your dreams have just come true.Shot in a series of short, self-contained vignettes, there are references to Pulp Fiction, Edward Scissorhands, The Mask,&nbsp;and even Björk's Army Of Me -&nbsp;featuring a very Gondry-esque dentist scene. And somehow it all works together.The video is completely batshit crazy, and most importantly, unforgettable. There are very few artists who could be this comfortable and confident being so goofy, and Meyers does an outstanding job with Sheeran and Scott, never letting either of them lose whichever quirky character they are playing.&nbsp;

Askjell serenades a young couple on his piano as they search&nbsp;for each other in a dark, damp void, in Part III of Sophia + Robert's bold&nbsp;visual album.The six part project, which began earlier this year, is shaping up to be refreshingly avant-garde and a thing of real beauty. There are shades of T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land in its autumnal mood, crumbling world and fragmented, episodic character.With a young couple acting as guides, we navigate through a shifting landscape&nbsp;of cliffs, pools, bedrooms, sand and shingle. Each instalment has a specific mood and visual character. <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/04/01/askjell-autumn-autumn-sophia-robert/58059">Autumn, Autumn</a> was a frenetic, anxious introduction to Askjell’s world. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U7vnbJfTSE">To Be Loved</a> was a moment in transition. A daring static shot of the couple waiting for sunrise, clocking in at just under 4 minutes.Requiem&nbsp;has a distinctly somber, contemplative tone. It also also has a more simple, classical sensibility. Part of this will be the influence&nbsp;of Askjell. This is the Norwegian musician's first appearance in the project, and his piano is a soothing&nbsp;authorial voice. But this is also down to Franklin Dow’s operatic photography, which is somehow intimate and sweepingly grand all at once.

CC Wade have created a spectacular Genet-inspired video for Fat White Family: a homoerotic love tragedy set on the battlefield.&nbsp;The directing duo have collaborated once again with Francesca Di Mottola - winner of the award for Best Production Design at last year&#39;s UKMVAs for the directors&#39; video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/09/07/king-krule-biscuit-town-cc-wade/54898">King Krule&#39;s Biscuit Town</a>&nbsp;- to create a complete cinematic world in the studio that would not look out of place in a Powell &amp; Pressburger classic. The long, climactic battle scene, in particular, is a triumph of old-school filmmaking craft.&nbsp;With the label version of the video for Feet released back in January, this version is the Directors Cut - what CC Wade consider the finished video. And it&#39;s a joy to behold.
